Gov Omehia awards N7b contract
,  To non-indigene
By Ogbonna Nwuke

Governor Celestine Omehia has awarded his first contract, from information that is reaching our news desk.
The contract which is huge and mouth-watering is for the construction of a new shopping mall.
The idea of building new shopping malls, insiders tell the Telegraph is to upgrade the level of commerce and the facilities needed for it in a changing and dynamic business environment.
Our sources say that the Omehia government awarded the job for a whooping N7 billion.
Mixed feelings have greeted the award of the contract among insiders and supporters of government.
Surprisingly, the contract which probably signifies the giant steps that Omehia intends to take while in office, would not be executed by any of the multi-national firms or business outfits owned by Rivers people.
Rather, it has been awarded to a non-indigenous business outfit owned by an Igbo from Anambra who in the last eight years has cornered most of the plum jobs at the expense of Rivers businessmen who continue to complain that their own government is not patronizing them.
Apparently, the award of contracts to non-indigenes was one of the complaints that Rivers people had against out-gone Governor Peter Odili.
As things are, Omehia may have either chosen to follow the same path or is being pressured to do so by some powerful interests.
Nowhere was the feeling of resentment more than in pro-govbernment circles.
The contractor is a man whose name was given to us as Pat Sule.
His full name is Patrick Sule Ugboma.
Our sources say who owns big investments very close to Tantalizers.
We have heard that the same man built the Rivers State House of Assembly valued at close to N4.5 billion.
We have been told that he was the one who handled the new Judiciary complex at a cost some say is about N3 billion.
He is the same one handling the renovation of the State Secretariat complex.
Now, Omehia to the consternation of Rivers people including those who are close to him has given him another slice of big business with some asking when Rivers people would have the benefit of doing such jobs in their own state.
Some Rivers people reached said Omehia should think again and place more emphasis on developing Rivers political and economic interests to avert a backlash that could indeed be very costly.

Is this what will move Nigeria forward? It is high time people started to petition these journalists and their editors? They call this news?

What has an engineering contract even got to do with indigene or non-indigene?
