Alot of persons actually think that cement manufacturers like Dangote, BUA Lafarge are cashing out big time due to the price hike.
The reality is that, the cement manufacturers have not added a dime to the cost of cement in the past 1 year. Dangote cement cost price is still 2470 for 42.5 variant,
2450 for falcon and 2500 per bag for bloc master. BUA and Lafarge likewise.

The people actually making money now are the distributors of cement.
In the past, the distributors were loosing money because the cement was in excess and they needed to meet their various targets and surprisingly these distributors were selling below the cost price. Yes you heard, below cost price. Most of them did this to win their competitors markets while leveraging on the little performance bonuses they earned from the company for lifting some required quantities.
These practices made them loose lots of moneys which some distributors run out of cash and many had to switch line of their business.

Let's talk about now. Cement price is high because the company (Dangote) had technical issues which they managed to resolve. Their production capacity is the largest.

Government projects are numerous which also takes a large chunk of cement thereby increasing demand, export is ongoing to nebouring countries which has in a way reduced adequecy. These are a few among many surrounding factors that have made cement scarce.
The distributors now don't get cement easily and have to wait for allocations. When ever one manages to get in a week or in days, they sell it to highest bidders.

In essence, the manufacturers didn't add a kobo to the price.
You hear alot of persons say Dangote, BUA are taking back the moneys they gave out during pandemic or Lockdown etc....
That's not true, the companies have tried so hard to manage the situation to even curb extortion from their distributors instead.

Then only solution is for scarcity to have a resolve and prices will fall back to what it use to be.
But the scarcity won't be ending very soon because demand is growing everyday within and outside Nigeria and the production capacity is not very very efficient to meet the demands for now. You can go ahead and build but always bargain well to get a fair price because the truth is no matter theborice you get it at. That distributor is making good money from a single bag.

This is a first hand experience and not mere assumption.
Thanks
