I don't know why we like embarrassing ourselves by terming our most popular language ''pidgin English''.

Or 'brokin'.

What nonsense.

We need to find a proper name and give the language.

In other climes they call their version of hybridized English by actual names, eg Creole, Patois, Gullah, etc.

So we should find one correct name and name our own.

Any NAME suggestions welcome!

I fancy the term NAIJINO. wink

Well, whatever we call it, it is still a version of a foreign language....

It can never be used as a language of instruction or as Nigeria's official Language because it has no standard variety unlike proper languages.

It can be standardised with time but at that time is no longer pidgin.

No language is superior to another actually but pidgin is not a 'Language' nor dialect. According to the name it is a pidgin version of a Language. Every language can have a pidgin.
e.g Portuguese, french, Even Yoruba but we mostly have dialects.
Creole is somewhat different to pidgin because it has native speakers. As in that's the only language they know.

Speakers of pidgin do speak another language even if only their mother tongue....

Op this is commendable, we Nigerian need to start valuing our own. This so called pigin language can be advanced whereby structures can be made in a in other to refine it.

America has their own english language which was carved out of the one of their colonial master. We need to start using our heads in this country.

WHAT IS NIGERIAN FOOD

WHAT IS NIGERIAN CULTURE

THINK IT DEEP AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND NIGERIA IS NEITHER A COUNTRY NOR A NATION

I think proper self-identity among Africans is a 'world problem'. This topic is relevant.

Absolutely. Can you imagine when we start having chemistry books penned in 'pidgin'..? History books, Economics, IT, Geography, Medicine etc etc.

I think it would be fantastic and broaden our pool of talent significantly.

The first step, I think, is to give the language a NAME. wink
