Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today declared that the act of government agencies rearresting people in the court premises after they had been granted bail is unconstitutional. Ekwo gave the pronouncement during a ruling in a fundamental human rights case instituted by billionaire businessman, Babatunde Morakinyo against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The judge went further to award N50million in damages to Morakinyo, who was re-arrested and detained by the EFCC on the court premises after he had been granted bail by a court for charges filed against him by the agency.
