The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, began a two-day public hearing on six bills, which the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, said will improve Nigeria’s food and health sector.

Gbajabiamila noted that the Legislative Agenda of the 9th House outlined the ambitions the lawmakers hold regarding reform and overhaul of the country’s health care infrastructure.

He said, “We expect that when these six bills become law, they will each serve to improve our national health system in specific, and significant ways that will impact the lives of our nation’s people for a long time.”

The hearing was on the ‘Bill for an Act to establish a National Electronic Health Record System for the storage and access of electronic health records in Nigeria’ and the ‘Bill for an Act to amend the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Act to expand and bring the long title in conformity with the actual intendment of the bill, provide a stiff punitive measure to checkmate violations.’

Also on the list was the ‘Bill for an Act to Amend the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control Act, CAP N1, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.’

How I wish the bills would translate to food on our tables.

At this time what we need especially in the South is tangible productive action that would yield result within the space of 6-12 months and make us able to feed ourselves with little or no input from the North, not some useless bills. Let them shove their bills.

It's a pity that in these desperate times, the Yorubas do not have a clear leader to stand up against oppression and tyranny and articulate our views and voice our opinions. All our 6 governors or 7 (including Kwara), the so-called Asiwaju Tinubu, Femi Gbaja, Fasola and especially the vice president. From all quarters the silence is deafening. The only notable exception to this is Akeredolu of Ondo state and he hasn't done nearly enough.

The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny... Wole Soyinka

They should also work on herdsmen that are destroying farm land and killing farmers across the States. How can the bill to promote foods be effective while the sources of food itself is been attacked without been checked by the government.
