Prov.23.13 - Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will NOT die.

Prov.23.14 - You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.

Prov.22.15 - Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it FAR from him.

Another verse clearly says you should take your child outside and stone them to death if they're being too disobedient. I just love this Bible. cheesy

Will this beating of a thing make my children billionaires?

If no.

I am not going to beat them .

Most parents just want their children to worship them.

Children should be trained for the world, not their parents.

Folly is to not know God's word but still act like you do. Stop reveling in ignorance.

Ignorance is not really knowing the kind of book you so much depend your life on.
Did your bible say it or not?

That's if the verse is treated in isolation. There are several factors involved in child training. Correction of a child has to be done in love, with consistency, without partiality and for the correct reason. A disagreed parents correction for instance is more of punishment if not folly. The two parents have to be in agreement without hypocrisy else the child will just be manipulating them both. Also, not every correction/rod is cane. Yes, a proper child will 99% chop proper cane but not every correction is cane. There's is a way you beat a child and it is just transferred aggression or frustration or anger, not love. Those ones are not likely to work the real work. Some people too will almost kill their child because he broke plate or stained clothes but would be laughing when the child lies or dishonors God or people. So you see, it's not a linear 1+1=2 thing. Many things connect together in child training.
Some people pamper a child and then begin to beat her like an animal as a teenager. Sorry is those ones case. It's like adding beans late when making pottage, you go purge.

You Samuel remain a most ignorant boy guilty of a lack of the OP. It may have been better if your parents misunderstood that verse like you. You may have turned out well.

The passage is clearly not for everyone, and may not necessarily work for all. Some may even try to apply it and end up causing unnecessary problems.

Many would rather settle for destructive western culture than obeying God's word. Those who are truly of God will not try to argue with God's word, but rather obey.

God bless.

The book of proverbs was not written as the word of God. Certainly the authors of each of the entries do not suggest that their writings are inspired by God(i.e. they were not Prophets) so why assume they were? undecided

One famous author of entries in the book of Proverbs is Solomon, a man who was blessed with great wisdom by God. Sadly, the same man, with all that wisdom, eventually abandoned God, choosing to worship idols instead. There is no record that he ever repented of His wickedness, even at the end, and it is likely he may have continued writing proverbs even after turning away from God.

Another writer is the mother of Lemuel, a son of Solomon. Lemuel's mother is famously known to have written Proverbs 31 which some of you pretend is the portrait of a "godly" woman, however, it seems more of a portrait of a "worldly" woman. There is no record of this woman ever knowing God but we do know that she was one of Solomons's 1000 women, explaining why such a mother would write such a proverb as advice for her son in the end.

I perceive from writing that you were just trying to argue; if so, please ignore this, and someone else might need this.

ALL scriptures, not some were inspired by God for CORRECTION unto righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for CORRECTION, for instruction in righteousness:

Jesus and his apostles quoted psalms, proverbs, Isaiah and others quite regularly as part of their major teachings, except the aspect of the Law, which is now about the Law of the Spirit: Love/Obedience to Jesus.

In fact, the book of proverbs is like a new testament book in old testament; many, if not most of Jesus' teachings and warnings on the sermon on the mount and others are there: lusting with the eyes/adultery of the heart, pride, love of money and material wealth/greed, anger, evil speaking, obedience to God/repentance, loving ones enemies, honouring ones parent, etc.

Also, just because Solomon finally backslid doesn't make the book lose its power, as it was inspired by God not man. If David had refused to repent, his writings in Psalms would still be valid. Paul said if he didn't discipline himself, he himself would be disqualified (despite writing many great new testament books).

Again, this is not to argue. If this doesn't make sense to you, kindly ignore.

Thanks.

You perception engine must be on the fritzz.!

The book of Proverbs is a compendium of that which was considered wisdom by some during a period.... Before you adopt those teachings, you ought to carefully examine the truth therein.

When you consider that the first couple of chapters were written by Solomon, a man who had 700 wives and 300 concubines, it puts the writings in new light. Imagine a man, himself bathed in adultery, as your teacher as far as adultery is concerned. Does such wisdom come from God or is there a reason behind his proclamation. These are some questions you ought to ask yourself when you read the entries in that book.

Another take of this is to examine the man closely. Solomon was, like King Saul, anointed of God, and like Saul sinned against God, dying in his sins as well. But I bet that if Saul had written a book on God, you, along with others, would probably not consider his words the truth of God.
