The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ogun state Government has collaborated on Thursday in the state capital “Abeokuta” to wrap up plans for the building of 500 housing units for victims that were made homeless in the 2018 flood incident in the state capital.


The director of relief and rehabilitation, of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), mr Kayode Fagbemi led the Federal Government team, stating that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved fund for the project.



The news agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the flood resulted from a heavy downpour which caused disaster in some parts of Abeokuta on July 13, 2018, thereby destroying many houses and other properties.

The Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who visited the affected areas after the unpleasant event, however he gave his words that the Federal Government would do anything to help find a lasting solution to the calamity by providing houses in safer regions for the victims.

NAN stated that the meeting followed with a visit on Wednesday by NEMA and Ogun government delegates to the planned site located at Soyoye area, in the Abeokuta-North council area.

Fagbemi, however told journalists at the venue, that the Federal Government intended to build 500 units of 2-bedroom houses to accommodate the victims.

He also guaranteed that the scheme would be implemented through direct labour of manpower for the benefit of the host community and would be completed within six months.

Fagbemi wants the Ogun state government to set up a state implementation committee to work with the national implementation committee for speedy achievement of the project.

He revealed the meeting is a necessity to explore areas of teamwork, adding that the state government are suppose to clear the land and also provide other amenities such as schools, markets and hospitals in the community.

According to him, the same wave of development is going on in Katsina State, urging that the development is moving on very fast in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who led the state team, applauded the Federal Government for their selfless support.
