You mean they should use it to recruit their own police and soldiers when the Constitution makes them handicap ?

To me security votes is another form of corruption in the system bcs, after the whole thing they will still fall back to the FG to resolve any security issue.

Until we decentralize power in Nigeria, we're still deceiving ourselves.

In bold.
Absolutely correct.

Even the present forming of militia groups by states or zones to protect a state or zone from invaders from other zones in the same country is an indication that Nigeria is a disunited country but remains one on paper.

We are not ready to fix Nigeria. No country works with the current unitary structure. No where it can work under such complex multi ethnic dimension.

Either Nigerians are so stupid or they are not truthful. See them all shouting security votes. So if armed bandits attack your town, the governor will summon the security votes to your defence or hire foreign machineries to repel the bandit? This country was fashioned for centralised control to satisfy some people's selfish desires and until we dismantle this and decentralise power, security, resource control etc, We will continue going round in circles.
Thank you my brother. Do they even know how the so called Security Vote is disbursed? While it might be appropriated, disbursement is another process entirely. The fact is that many Nairalanders need to be more familiar with the Nigerian Constitution as that shall guide their comments a lot. For example, the Alafin alleged that many of bandits that were arrested are walking free today courtesy if higher authorities from Abuja. Is that a Security Vote issue for God's sake?. I begiiii

Bleaching Oba, most probably vexed the way President Buhari has shunned him, & giving much more relevance to the Oni of Ife? Maybe Security votes money to him is to throw Owambes monthly, or beauty pageants to look for a new yellow wife?

You're simply stupid

The chief security officer of the State can't be blamed for the insecurity in their state? grin
Then it means we shouldn't blame Buhari for all the killings, kidnapping, robbery, murder etc happening in Nigeria.
Which kind country be this sef undecided

Did you even bother to read the article...chai

Does your state governor who is dubiously named the chief security officer of his state command the security forces in his state?
A chief security officer must have security forces he commands. Nigeria Police and military are the instruments of coercion (force) in Nigeria. Both are commanded by the president of Nigeria.

But when it's time to rig local government elections or harrass citizens they have full power to command security forces, abi? And when insecurity is at the peak in the state, all they need to do is fall flat on their face to defeat because they have no command of the security operatives. If they don't have a say on how to secure their state from insecurity, why were they elected? It's the duty of the government to secure life and property, and for every state, the ultimate responsibility falls on the governor.

Why are the governors taking security votes and what are they using it for?

Why are governors even called the chief security officer of a state if they can’t set up security networks or support vigilante groups to secure their states when FG fail.

Then all the Governors should return the NBillions of money collected as Security Votes for the States.
Traditional Rulers should stop speaking for these non- performing governors,as the public see the statement as cover up for lack of performance and are using those votes illegally.

Even a local government councilor can organize tugs to help him rig elections, talk less, a state governor.

Security of lives and property in a state is different from organizing police and soldiers to help to rig elections for governor.

Nigeria’s constitution dubiously called governors the chief security officer of their states. But the governors don’t command any security outfits to secure their states.
Any day Amotekun seriously goes against the interest of Buhari clan, the armed forces of Nigeria shall be unleashed against the Amotekun.
Nigeria’s political structure and constitution supervised by northern military dictators were programmed to make southerners to remain mere onlookers in the political process of Nigeria in a unitary government system.

Even you sir we blame you too for not putting sense on Makinde.

A Governor is the chief security of his state so why can't he be blame for the insecurity na??

Nigerian old men are something else oo.

I'm not trying to defend any state governor but in all sincerity the power accrued to the state governors is very very limited particularly when it comes to the security matter. Imagine in one of the states in South West, a traditional ruler was killed and nothing like investigations but some cows killed and there was an order from Abuja to make arrest. What are we talking about? Up till now, nothing has changed since after 'end sars' protest. There is too much power at the centre. God bless Nigeria.
