SOUTH EAST SENATE CONSTITUTION REVIEW ZONAL PUBLIC HEARING.

~ SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH CALLS FOR AN INCLUSIVE AND ROBUST PARTICIPATION OF CITIZENS IN CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT PROCESS.

Yesterday being Wednesday; May 26, 2021, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah joined his fellow members of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, at the South East Zonal Public hearing on the proposed alterations of the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Zonal Committee which consists of Senators from Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi State is saddled with the task of reviewing and making further amendments to the 1999 Constitution in order to address contemporary issues that will greatly impact on our democracy.

Speaking during the public hearing, the Distingushed Senator emphasized that the Constitution amendment process is a fundamental issue of national importance, that is extremely critical to the enhancement of national development.

" It is deeply humbling to have the privilege to be here as the only YPP Senator, among so many distinguished Senators " Senator Ubah said .

The Senator expressed great optimism, at the output that he and his distinguished colleagues are expected to deliver, after thorough deliberations and dissection of the submissions made by members of the general public, Executive and Judicial arms of Government, civil society organisations and other interest groups on several matters.They include but are not limited to, gender equality for women and girls, federal structure and power devolution, Nigeria Police and Nigerian security architecture, comprehensive judicial reforms, residency and indigene provisions, electoral reforms.etc.

"Given the caliber and composition of this committee, I am assured that we will steer an inclusive, robust and participatory exercise, that will allow recommendations which will enable the committee come up with a constitution that will positively impact and consolidate Nigeria’s democratic gains." Senator Ubah emphasized

Conclusively , the Distingushed Senator used the opportunity to once again reiterate that his priority will always be to work for the betterment of public interest through robust, effective and detailed legislation to ensure that our people derive the dividends of democracy.

May God in HIS infinite mercy crown these efforts with resounding success, as they embark on this patriotic journey of Nation building.

Distinguished Senators and Dignitaries who attended the public hearing include; Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Senator Sam Egwu, Hon. Uche Okafor; Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi; Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, other Honorable members of South Eastern State Parliament and Traditional Rulers.

The deliberations continue today in Enugu and Imo states respectively
