Emulate Yoruba, Group Tells Other Tribes by step1: 12:19am On May 04, 2011
A socio-cultural group, Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Group, has urged other ethnic groups to emulate the peaceful co-existence among the Yoruba.

The National Chairman of the group, Mr. Dayo Ogunlana, who spoke against the background of the recent post-election violence in some parts of the North, in Lagos on Friday, said the Yoruba related well with other ethnic groups irrespective of their religions.

Ogunlana said, “Other ethnic nationalities should emulate the peaceful co-existence among the Yoruba who relate very well with either their Muslim or Christian neighbours as well as with other nationalities outside the Yoruba nation.

“Care should be taken to always prevent religious and tribal strive. All efforts must be made to foster true nationhood where Nigerians can own property and move freely unmolested at any part of the country.”

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting free and fair elections, adding that “the April polls were relatively free and fair by our standard.”

Ogunlana therefore called on the relevant authorities to immortalise the slain corps members, saying “they are martyrs.”

He clarified that “COSEG is not only a voice for the Yoruba struggle. We have been reaching out to other ethnic nationalities with a view to forging a common front towards building a virile nation that all of us will be proud of.

“A conference of all ethnic groups in Nigeria and in the Diaspora is in the offing to address the vexatious national question.”

What does it mean?

The "Ogun" in his name = god of iron, not war as you wrongly assumed.

Where were they during the Ife-Modakeke war? . Should other ethnic groups emulate that too?

Why are you insulting someone old enough to be your father. Do you in any sense expect us to start killing northerners and igbos just because of an election. The other day, northerners fled Asaba or something to an army barracks. Still yet all ethnic group feel safe in the SW, is that not worth emulating.

Ife-Modakeke war did not claim any life apart from yorubas. Where there reports of igbos or northerners dying as a result of the war ?
Re: Emulate Yoruba, Group Tells Other Tribes by loco4love: 1:28am On May 04, 2011
Yorubas are not perfect we have our faults and or positives. There are serious ethnic issues within Yoruba society that need to be addressed. Dont emulate bad examples of coexistence and social engineering. People please do the right thing.

So Yoruba life is less valuable than the lives of other ethnic groups?. Stop shooting yourself in the leg simply because you want to defend a group of dimwits who made a claim. So killing is allowed as long as it is Yoruba on Yoruba or Igbo on Igbo, etc?

In this context, the writer is explaining how other groups should stop committing act of killing on another group of people just because they are not from the same ethnic group. Killing is not allowed in any society but one must know that killing people from other ethnic groups just because they live in the same geographical space as your ethnic group is a barbaric act which must be condemned by all.

No one is envying you Yorubas. What is there to envy?

Igbos do not envy Yorubas. Yorubas do not envy Hausa. Hausa do not envy Igbos. Igbos do not envy Hausa. Yoruba do not envy Igbo and so on and so on.

Can't you all stay in your sphere of influence? grin

We can divide Nigeria up in different spheres. Remember there are 247 other tribes in Nigeria!

Emulate the yorubas at your own peril undecided

Yorubas get killed in the north and they deny getting killed,,,,,,,is this 'living in denial' worth emulating?

Yorubas are peaceful no doubt, but certain conflict(s) need to be settled once and for all,,,,,,through war if no other option is viable

Emulate rascals?? God forbid. Yorubas are the most despicable and most economically backward people in Nigeria. If you doubt me visit ekiti, oyo, osun and rest of the caves( states). Their foolishness is second to almajiris and mallams up north. I think the SW and north has alot in common (check their outlook, complexion ( so dark, with facial marks), accent etc). Igbos are the only polished people in Nigeria. They are seen as oyibo in every part of Nigeria. They live in good apartments, eat good foods etc.

Its feel like an American being Igbo.
Re: Emulate Yoruba, Group Tells Other Tribes by Nobody: 12:54pm On May 04, 2011
This is a lession for the ibo and hausa/fulani to emulate the ways of the yorubas.Ibo have nothing to offer save for kidnapping, armed robbery and drug trafficking while the hausas are known for terrorism;so either way,Yoruba rocks.

Igbo means bush so i am not surprised that many of you folks act like bush monkeys.Go to ajegunle ,Okoko maiko ,Alaba and go how see how your kinsmen live like vermin in their rat infested ,over populated slums.Even in the east your infrastructure is appalling as compared to the SW.Most of you live in mud houses and fetch water from the stream.

Igbos are not good businessmen they are just good petty traders. When it come to big time business Yorubas rule.We are not talking about spare parts ,okirika or fake electronics.

onye ara, mmiri buru gi.

Yes we are oyibo compare to level of poverty amongst your people (Yorubas). Or don't see Yorubas with their plates in hands on the streets of lagos trailing their almajiris brother in begging Igbos (oyibo) money. We are not petty bizmen. Infact the biggest investment in lagos of today are own by the Igbos. Yorobaman have no difference from almajiris in the north. Infact Yoruba people are even poorer than almajiris, that is why you all 'area-boys'. Like GEJ said that you all are rascals. lol. You need to stop sitting around in your mothers kitchen and start travelling. Onitsha as a city is more developed than all the states in the SW put together. Onitsha is like New york compare to SW states (except lagos for obvious reasons). You guys are poor, you eat only amala and ewedu lol. I remember when I visited akure, it was like visiting the remotest village in the world. In akure i saw mud houses all over the place. Your people lives in mud house while the few Igbo there live in good apartments. We eat good food also unlike Yorubas. That is what I meant by the fact that Igbos are like oyibo amongst you guys (Yoruba).

Listen good for your knowledge in your exams 'oyibo' means Iboman or Igboman (Igbo person)
