NEC NOW RECEIVING REPORTS FROM STATE JUDICIAL PANELS ON ENDSARS

*To convene Council session soon on implementation


As judicial panels set up by State Governors to resolve issues of police brutality and related concerns across the country round up their assignments, the National Economic Council (NEC) is set to convene a special session to review reports of the panels that have now started coming to the Council.

This is among resolutions and conclusions reached today at the Council’s 117th meeting held virtually and presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo , SAN with State governors, federal ministers, the Central Bank Governor and other top government officials in attendance.

It will be recalled that the judicial panels were recommended after adoption of a resolution by NEC to address nationwide complaints of police brutality after the President dissolved the Police SARS unit. Almost all States in the Federation set up the panels including the Federal Capital Territory.

The Vice President at today's meeting announced that a special session of NEC will soon be convened to consider all the reports that are ready from the judicial panels set up late last year to address the concerns of the Nigerian people on police brutality allegations and other related issues. That meeting would also consider the implementation of the reports including remedies, redress and compensations.

The review of judicial panel to assess how justice for EndSARS victims across the country is an astute move, let's know which state perform and ensure justice is served for the victims of police brutalities.

The establishment of Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) to address the problem of sexual and gender-based violence is a good move, we don't even have data of this menace or how to solve it as it has become Normal in the land.

The recommendations will be implemented on the eve of the general elections in 2023!

Another panel will be set up to look into the reports, which in turn will give room for another panel to emerge to X-ray the reports of the previous panels. Then,the panels will be give room for another panel and the drama of panels goes on and on and on.

This government actually thought a second protest wouldn’t have been possible after the #endsars, they are now trying to make Nigerians to be calming down....

This is a good one

The federal government has done well by putting up the judicial panel in the first place. We can now see how each state has worked to get justice for victims.

I have have one leader to thank for giving attention to Endsars, and the first to apologize on behalf of the government, one who ensured governors set up tribunal panels in all states and make sure justices is served to the victims of the police brutalities, Lagos and some South western state are leading with money run into multi-millions distributed so far for the victims.

I believe you read the post very well, they are to come with report so far. What else do you want nah?

Great! I’m glad NEC came up with this Judicial panel. I know compensation might not replace or be enough comfort for what people went through nor can it replace lives that were lost but I’m glad there is even a form of compensation being done and this credit goes to NEC. NEC needs to ensure states comply with the rules and they compensate victims of police brutality in their states.

This is good all the victims of police brutality will at least get justice thanks to the NEC meeting chaired by the Vice President for bringing solution to this.

This news is really good, the judicial panel also need to be accountable, their work so far needs to be accessed and recommendations from the committee should be properly looked into.

I trust Osinbajo leadership skills.

Justice must be served as VP Yemi Osinbajo has always maintained.
