A better solution will be for the army to conscript corp members who are willing to join the army, immediately after they leave camp, for at least 3 years service. No tribalistic recruitment or any other mago mago, just put them on a good salary right away and watch intending corps members rush at the opportunity.

To me, he has a point, but it should not be particular to NYSC alone... Everyone needs to learn the art of self defense including handling and using fire arms effectively in today's Nigeria.

I concur,but 1 year is enough to learn arms handling, Rules of engagement and other endeavors.

Leadership is our problem in Nigeria. When you see this type of shallow and ridiculous comment coming from a state governor, you realise we are in trouble.

They are obsessed with what is happening in better run societies where there's law and order and better accountability in all sectors, they now propose that we apply what is working for them without rationally thinking if our society is suited for those types of practices.

Countries like US, etc that citizens can have guns operate in a society that has competent and airtight application in security and government accountability. And even with all that they are under a heavy plague of deaths by gun violence.
It is extremely difficult to control and reduce gun violence over there.
If we allow citizens to hold guns here, we would self destruct in a year or two, then by 5 years we could wipe ourselves from the world map, because bodies will be dropping like flies per second across the country.

In Israel, 70 percent of their youths are already trained. It is not compulsory they must join the military but they could be used as reinforcement when the need arises. Useless governor, send ur children to undergo nysc training for 2 years so that government wont recruit soldiers believing that corpers will come every year. For example because of nysc government have refused to employ teachers thereby using nysc members year in year and same in other sectors to achieve their selfish aims thereby increasing unemployment. To me nysc is one of the reasons why unemployment is on the rise. The earlier nysc is scrapped out, that will be the beginning of good things for the youth and Nigeria as a whole.

Was it not the same NYSC Certificate that has been indirectly declared useless by an Abuja Court recently in the case of Kemi Adeosun saga? If it not needed for political appointment as well as to contest any election into House of Rep, Senate etc of what relevance is now a days to warrant the scheme extension to two years?

He has a point though. I'm not going to do this on a 33k salary. If this is to happen, corp member should be paid like recruits in the army.
