There was a mild drama at the Federal High Court Abuja on Monday as the court tried to identify the 12 detained aides of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The confusion arose when the court sought to ascertain the identities of those that were produced and those that were not produced in court by the Department of State Service

When the matter came up before Justice Obiora Egwuatu, the DSS only produced eight of the detained Igbobo’s aides in court. The produced aides consisted of seven males and one female.

The PUNCH had reported that Justice Egwuatu ordered the DSS to produce all 12 detained aides to enable the court to inquire into the circumstances surrounding their arrest.

However, at the last adjourned date when the DSS failed to produce them in court, the DSS lawyer, I. Awo, had told the court that some of the names on the court order were different from the names of the persons they had arrested on July 1, 2021, at Igboho’s house.

Following the confusion generated in court about the names of the detained aides, the lawyer to the detained aides, Pelumi Olajengbesi, moved his motion and applied to the court for leave to amend his processes before the court to reflect their correct names and prayed the court to deem it as amended.

Counsel to the DSS, I. Awo, did not oppose the application for leave to amend the processes. However, he noted that he had issues with the prayer by Olajengbesi asking the court to deem the processes as amended.

Awo argued that the deeming order as prayed by Olajengbesi was preempting the court as the court has the discretion whether to grant or refuse the application.

Justice Egwuatu granted the application for the lawyer to the detained aides to amend and file his processes reflecting the correct name of the detained aides.

He ordered that the amendment and filing should be done on or before August 4.

He also adjourned the matter to August 4.

The detained aides were brought to court amidst tight security. Officials of the DSS also engaged with journalists while preventing them from entering the courtroom or taking pictures of the detained aides.
