Just be careful with the digits on your atm even if there ain't money in it.
Also people don't know that the receipt they get form the POS carries their ATM numbers, don't dispose it anyhow

His money can only be withdrawn if they got the OTP sent to him. No other way.

They didn't flash your friend, they called him and he foolishly handed over the OTP to the fraudster.

My brother, please google Pegassus spyware.

The old model only needed for someone to flash your phone to get root access to it...and then have access to EVERYTHING.

For the current model, no need to even flash you, and there's honestly no defence.

MY BROTHER THAT BUSINESS EMAIL COMPROMISE STILL DEY BAFFLE ME!

HOW CAN A TOTAL STRANGER DISCOVER OR CLONE A COMPANY CEO EMAIL AND NOW USE IT TO ORDER ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT TO START TRANSFERING HUGE AMOUNT OF DOLLARS TO UNKNWN ACCOUNTS!

walahi this scam is not normal - some other things that we don't knw is involved!

Compromise...

The person hacks your account, then shadows a deal you are discussing until payment time. Then sends their own bank details to the other party.

Or instructs the company CFO to make certain payments.

And on company instructional transfers, physical memos and direct summons from CEO are still the in-thing.

hi

2D payment gateway only requires a credit card number and expiry date to accomplish the payment.

In contrast, the 3D payment gateway demands the ID and the password provided by the issuer, in addition to the credit card number and the expiry date and an otp to process payment.

the federal inland revenue service uses the 2D payment platform - once you key in your card details they withdraw ur money without sending you otp. same with most online shops,

it then mean that once anyone have access to your card details, all he has to do is look for shops that use 2d payment platform and use your card to shop till your account is empty.

now scammers develop 2-d online shopping platforms for the purpose of using it to wipe funds from skimmed cards. you will just stay and be receiving alert for market you no buy,

smart guys no longer use their cards at point of sales - they rather do transfer or create an account for pos only and only fund it whn they want to use it instantly.

IT IS NOW A MUST FOR EVERYONE TO BE STREET SMART OR SORRY GO BE YOUR FRIEND.

BEWARE OF POS. SOME NOW INSTALL CCTV JUST TO CAPTURE YOU TYPIN YOUR PIN. SOME PRETEND THEY ARE DIALING A NUMBER WHILE CAPTURING YOU AS YOU ENTER YOUR PIN.

Boy! This is chilling!

Is paystack the medium providing the gateway For these websites to banks processing system?

Why aren’t the banks rejecting request from 2D platforms, and insist on them to upgrade to a more secure 3D platform?

I know 2D gateway is essential for over-the-phone payments but, atleast, there should be a way to incorporate the OTP aspect of this process to make it more secure.

Payments made over the 2D can be charged back, right? The customer can file claims to the bank, and in turn, the bank request a charge back from the merchant. I don’t if this is possible here; but overseas you can charge back on a fraudulent debit.

I tell you my story. The boys hit me on a Saturday night. All through that night, my phone had no network.. no calls... non SMS. I thought it was the usual network failure in my area. Airtel has poor network around this end. Then came Sunday morning... still no network. I checked my other phone used mainly for browsing; it had service.

I called Airtel... the said nothing wrong with my line. Maybe my SIM card is damaged. I went to Airtel office at shoprite. That was when I discovered they had swapped my SIM.

Immediately, I checked my email box: the debit alerts came rolling. First 30k, then another 30k on Sunday morning, another careless withdrawal ... total debit was 260K.

Omo, I followed it up with GT bank on Monday. Made a police report at Lions building, sworn court affidavit, stamped and registered. Copies of the debit alerts. Presented all these to Airtel office legal unit, GT fraud unit and CBN.

Got my money back in 21days.. to God the glory

OTP is a new technology for added security. But that 3digits cannot be used to bypass OTP.

You people are mistaken this OTP thing, the image you showed is OTP from sportypay not from your bank/payment processor.

OTP from your bank/payment processor is what is needed to complete transaction, if not sent, then sportypay uses an older payment processor (2D) that doesn't require OTP.

can't u see it's was clearly indicated GTbank on the screenshot? therefore the OTP was sent by the bank. Yeah precisely it was 2D payment that was used to withdraw fund to Sportybet cause that's the system used.

 S. O. S

My friend's account got emptied on Saturday by a fraudster using SPORTYPAY platform. An OTP was sent to him and immediately an unknown number flashed him. Shortly afterwards he started seeing debit alerts even without given out the OTP.

Getting to his bank today, he's been told the possibility of getting the money back is slim if not impossible.

Now, checking out the SPORTYPAY site, we discover that they don't have a standard or working platform, while Sportypay.ng automatically redirects to a porn site...

Also, there have been similar complaint online about same thing happening and same platform used to defraud other people of their hard earned money.

CONCERNS:
Are customer's money still safe in the banks?
Is it that the security network in the banks are now porous and vulnerable to cyber attacks?

Please those in appropriate authority should do something about this before it goes beyond control and possibly cause unwarranted depression and death at worst.

I think you guys should be more careful about your bank information because there’s a software that’s been hot for a while now known as otp bot that bypasses any otp. Just like the op experienced, how otp bot works is that as soon as you get otp sent to your number the bot calls you and automatically captures the otp and just like that you start getting debits... Scams are getting frighteningly advanced now you guys should protect yourselves and stay updated!

My brother, it starts with phishing. But, it is in process.

Let me do a little expose to enlighten some Nairalanders:

The main aim of phishing is to obtain a victim's personal information or data (protected or unprotected) to perpetrate online crime.

For instance, GT bank's official website is www..gtbank.com a hacker will perform a phishing operation by cloning GTB's website to something like this: www..gtibank.com or www..gtbbank.com or www..igtbank.com or www..gtbank.org

When the victim clicks and opens any of the cloned GTB websites, it will look exactly like the GTB authentic official website. That is why it is cloned.

Now, once the victim performs any transaction on the cloned website by imputing his or her internet banking user ID and password, the details will appear in what hackers call "BOX".

They will use the victim's details to log in to the official GTB website and bypass a lot of things like OTP, security questions and answer e.t.c and transfer the funds into another account.

You might be wondering how do the victims receive the email.

The so-called "BOX" used by these hackers has an email extractor where they can extract hundreds of thousands of emails by location (Country, State, region). They will send it randomly to a lot of emails. This process is what is called "SPAMMING" or known as hackers as "bombing". The "BOX" is capable of sending hundreds of thousands of emails at the same time.

These hackers have professionals who are good at composing convincing emails that will look real to the victims.

They might receive an email with a cloned company address like this, "Dear ............ this is to inform you that your account with ........... has been breached. Please, visit our official website at ................ and log in to your internet banking to reset your password".

Note: As I wrote in the beginning, the main aim of the email is to convince the victim to provide his or her personal details.

I'm not a hacker but from my experience and close observations, I have discovered that Nigerian Banks have stronger security than American banks. American banks are too weak and are very prone to attacks.

A couple of days ago, I received a DM with a link from a Russian on my verified Instagram page of over 600K followers.

The content of the message was that I should click on the link and it's a video in which my face appeared.

Curiously, I clicked on the link. But guess what?

I was directed to another website where I was instructed to provide my IG username and password.

The page was real and the same as the official IG website. Now, if I had foolishly or ignorantly input my IG details, the hacker will get the details, use the details to log in to the real IG website, and change my details.

This is how some of our celebrities social media handles are hacked.
