In Nigeria, More Needs To Be Done To Combat Corruption, According To Garba Shehu by okokoete(m): 1:25pm On Aug 05, 2021
Garba Shehu, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on ICPC, has stated that the battle against corruption must be more holistic since the country’s corruption index is worsening despite President MuhammaduBuhari’s anti-corruption attitude.

Garba Shehu also expressed regret that, despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption battle, Nigeria’s corruption index remains among the highest in the world.

This was revealed by the federal lawmaker during the launching of the state prototype office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission in Yola on Thursday (ICPC).

He expressed his disappointment that, despite efforts by anti-graft authorities to combat corruption, the endemic still exists across the board in Nigeria, and that “corruption must not be allowed; it must be confronted head-on.”

While emphasizing that corruption has pushed Nigerians to the bottom of the worldwide transparency and public accountability rankings, he emphasized that the narrative must alter right away.

Prof. BolajiOwasanoye, the chairman of the ICPC, praised President MuhammaduBuhari’s administration in his speech, adding that corruption in public places was on the decline.

“The leading anti-corruption agencies, the ICPC, have a three-pronged mandate of enforcement, preventative education, and mobilization of Nigerians on and against corruption,” he continued.

“Corruption is a major hindrance to any nation’s socio-economic progress and development,” said the ICPC chairman.
