Not just today alone; he's been Argentina's best player in this tournament (arguably). He does all the dirty work; he's a great fighter. Personally, I believe Mascherano has been Barcelona's best player in this world cup: yes, better than Neymar and Messi, even though these two are the sung heroes of their respective national teams. I really do hope Enrique is taking note. We want to see Mascherano in his natural position next season.

Now they are in the final, they are now a good team, they wouldn't accept messi has carried an underperforming argentina to the final. He almost singlehandedly won 4 out of the 6 games. At this stage in the final win or lose nobody should say he cannot perform for his national team, nobody would dare play that iniesta and xavi card on him anymore. But if he wins this world cup he becomes the greatest of all time.
