Plain woven raffia cloth (mkpuru?) taken from the Igbo ('Eboe') country by William Baikie before 1856. British Museum. The first Igbo textile is ajị, beaten bark cloth. Before the 9th century CE weaving was done with vegetable fibers and, from an unknown date, local cotton.

Lol
If we now start to talk about the igbo civilizations which are scattered world over now nkọ?

From Egypt to Sumeria to Atlantis with the original source from oshambala (osha mbala)
They will say its bragging cool

Igbo civilised the world.
We gave them iron smelting
We taught them how to make tools out of iron
We gave the world the concept of time
We taught them mysticism

Up until now, common igbo lifestyle is seen as esoteric in other places
Ordinary igbo words and stories are used in writing the holy books of other religions.

Genesis 1 vs 1 to 2
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2. The earth was void and the surface was covered with darkness and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the deep.

This is a shallow rendition of a deeper mystic igbo story of creation which says
"Odi Ọbala mụrụ Ọbala naabọ.
2. Ọra Ọbala na Odi naabọ

Let's leave it at this.

Igbo's have been good traders long time ago, till date, it still runs in their blood, just name a biz you will never find an Igbo man doing, unless that biz is dead on arrival.

I'm mighty sure it's from the Asa/Ndoki ppl of Ukwa in Abia state. they call fabrics / wrapper''Mkpuru''.
They are also the originators of the famous Akwete cloth; you could read up more on it.
The Ppl are known for the manipulation of cotton yarns into beautiful fabrics.

The Abia state govt is reviving this agelong craft. With the advance of technology, they are now able to infuse multiple colors like in the 2nd picture.

u're definitely right about this. the akwete cloth wich were designed with nsibidi inscriptions on them were also transported down to oguta in imo state during the olden days, eze oguta still uses the akwete material till date with nsibidi inscriptions on them.

But i also think the Aji clothing textile might have originated from the northern Igbo axis while akwete was more of southern Igbo (ndokis)..

There's a deliberate misrepresentation of Ndigbo by the Nigerian government from long ago.
Most current Igbos didn't know that our ancestors were expert weavers both in the northern (Enugu/Ebonyi axis), Western (Anioma/Anambra axis) and Southern (Abia axis). Unless you research about it in books that discuss Igbo commerce before colonialism, you'll not know. Today, ignorant and misinformed trolls do attack Igbos saying we had no cloths simply because most of our ancestors choose not to use elaborate clothing to cover ourselves.
