The fact that a whale is a mammal doesn't necessarily oppose whatever claim is made in the bible. Nobody ever said religion and science are diametrically opposed to each other. If your pastor is educated enough, he will tell you that a whale is a mammal same way that flying bats are mammals too, same way your tomatoes is actually a fruit in the berry class and not a vegetable. These facts don't stop Yahweh from being Yahweh or Allah from being Allah.

They don't have gills. If you trap a whale under water perpetually, it will drown due to lack of air. This is why whales surface occasionally to breath in air.
