KILLINGS:
MAJOR HUMANITARIAN CRISIS LOOMS IN NORTH, AMNESTY WARNS.

Amnesty International has warned that a major humanitarian crisis looms in Northern Nigeria with the increasing rate of killings.

The organisation expressed concern over the rising killings, alleging that authorities have failed to protect the people.

A statement from the organisation claimed that inability of authorities to bring attackers to justice fuelled “dangerous conspiracy theories that only escalate the violence.”

The statement read, “A year ago, Amnesty International investigation shows that; the Nigerian authorities have left rural communities at the mercy of rampaging gunmen who have killed at least 1,126 people in the north of the country from January to August 2020.

“The organization interviewed people in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara states, who said they live in fear of attacks and abductions as insecurity escalates in urban and rural areas.

“On 28 May 2020 at least 74 people were reportedly killed in Sokoto state, when gunmen attacked four villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. More people have been killed in other local governments, including Isa LGA.

"According to witnesses interviewed by Amnesty International in Kaduna, Zamfara, Plateau and Katsina states, the attacks are well coordinated. Attackers stormed villages on motorcycles and heavily armed. They shoot sporadically at people, set houses on fire, steal cattle, destroy farm produce and abduct villagers for ransom.

“The violence has forced many farmers and their families to flee their homes. Last year, Katsina state government said that, at least 33,130 people are now in displacement camps, and others have gone to stay with relatives in urban areas. Thousands of farmers could not cultivate their farms during the 2020 and the current rainy season because of fear of attacks or abduction. This poses a threat to food security and livelihood.

“This is pushing the northern region to the brink of a major humanitarian crisis. The Nigerian authorities’ failure to stem the violence is costing people’s lives and livelihoods, and without immediate action many more lives may be lost.

“Spate of these killings is an evidence of failure of authorities to protect the people. Inability of authorities to bring attackers to justice is fueling dangerous conspiracy theories that only escalate the violence.

“Amnesty International is calling on Nigerian authorities to independently investigate all these deaths and ensure accountability by bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

By 2023 the males in the north will be less than hundred thousand, I see them struggling to migrate to the south for survival because they would have successfully damaged every project and business in their region, I see disaster awaiting them.

This I have seen.

The North is a wasteland . Instead of the north focusing on fixing their region they are more interested in creating dubious policies to steal our land in the southsouth so they can relocate their legions of terrorists to take over our Niger Delta and steal more of our oil. You can have the southwest, east or middlebelt but stay away from the Southsouth

The world is going through a devolution slippery slope of anarchy all courtesy of Wokeness and Globo-Homo.

If not for that homosexual mutt bastard that forced Buhari down our throats, and also put that demented swamp creature in the WH, we won't be here.

It is very very odd that with a retired general as president Nigeria is the haven of insecurity. OBJ was not this weak. Buhari is clearly compromised and until his exit no respite from these attacks. He came to liberate Fulanis and Jihadists in Nigeria including cows. Dazzol.

Some people will come here and argue with their last breath that Buhari and Osibanjo is the best thing that happened to Nigeria. Don't even mention Osibanjo at all beacuse that one has a full army of keyboard warriors here on nairaland, they will launch at you with all sorts of insults.

This government does not value human life. It has never been this bad.

No single effort is being put to stop killings. It continues to look like it's a deliberate attempt to cause famine.

It's a big shame!

This present crop of leaders are the worst thing that ever happened to Nigeria

Buhari not only failed , he failed woefully

A man that locked all southern borders and opened northern border despite all the insecurities in the region, he even build railway to Niger

What is going on in the north is not only about leadership but also has alot to do with religion!
The north is not the only region in Nigeria, but it has been turned into a mini Afghanistan because of religion. I really don't know if violence is what Islam is all about. I tell u if Afghanistan is divided into two part today, Christian & Muslim, it will only take few minutes for peace to return to the Christian part, while war will continue in the Muslim part. All the dreaded terrorist group all over the world all represent Islam. Islam do not work with peace, that is what is happening in the north.

Did I just hear north?

Mtcheew. Let the killings continue unabated abegi abegi abegi. cheesy

You can't take panadol for another man's headache. Sowore is fighting for the North. Funny enough Nnamdi Kanu is fighting for them but u know na, there is a certain level of intelligence you must attain first to decipher who's ur ally and who's foe.

Unfortunately most northerners are blinded by sentiments. They mocked MNK when arrested, also mocked Sowore on the death of his younger brother.

Hence I am NOT concerned about what happens over there. All I want is my South West to separate from the whole of this zoo asap!

There is a difference between the government failing to protect the people and the government encouraging the killers. The refusal of the government to end this madness is a big source of encouragement to these criminals.
