What led to it's decline and why was it painted as a dibolical cult? I've been doing some research and it seems it was just a group of politically and culturally like minded people initially.

Does being part of a group that shares the same interests mean that one doesn't know Jesus?

Same moral decadence that proliferate banditry, kidnapping, looting and exam malpractices in nigeria affected them. The country is thinking backward, and backward minded people obviously can't form a meaningful union of any kind.

Don't know much about the group but from the little I know...the decline probably started once they started taking in non-yorubas.

Truth, men of then had some form of morality in them and believed more in group interest as opposed to personal interests.....these days morals are in the gutter and man would sell his brother for a good price.

I may wrong but their influence doesn't seem as it was. And I never gave any statistics.

Historically the Ogboni were said to have been the third arm of the Oyo empire and even during nigeria's pre and post colonial times it had influencial members like Awo and akintola. These days they seem to have been relegated to the background.

Secret societies like that was main to enlighten the mind through the acquisition of practical knowledge and wisdom, but like every other thing in nigeria, they turned it into a fetish, superstitious and devious forum.

You mentioned Awo and Akintola.... That quite some decades ago. Things have revolutionized. Just like Christianity and Islam have revolutionized from same time till present. In modern times, you just have to be very close to know the cycle, movers and shakers. You cannot even identify or suspect an Ogboni member has of date. They just like every normal individual.

But if you dare to clear your doubts thoroughly, find one and he will lead you on... You will be amazed at the world behind those doors

There are two Ogboni orders.

1. The original: which is an ancient order of Yoruba obas, elites and chiefs.

2. The neo-Ogboni society: which was birth in the Anglican church and had Yoruba, Bini and Warri obas, elites and politicians.

Which of the Ogbonis are you referring to?

The political Ogboni still exists, it's just that modern civil laws is limiting their powers unlike pre-British-terrorism era.
Earlier this year, there was a case of an Oba whose family were fighting (legal suit) the Ogboni in their jurisdiction over the body of the deseased Oba.

There are new Ogbonis which are more like free-masons than political class because they wield no political power. E.g Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (ROF)

The Ogboni of ancient Yoruba are what modern Parliament are in the Parliamentary system of government. The difference is that the Ogboni adhere strictly to their moral code of conduct, unlike modern Parliamentarians

Their motives were different. The older order and the repackaged one cheesy (coded terms)

The first begun at otu ufẹ̀ for a purpose. And part of the purpose is to agitate for some rightful right of the affected ones ,which these rightful right also infringes on the affected people's right.

This led to rancour which make the affected groups termed them with some derogatory words...... Anyway, it's been settled

The later one was founded, which begun not up to a century that unified many people together for affluence connection, which has not seen the light of the day but not all joined. While the former has been timeless in existence .

They still exist just that they don't have the power that they had 800 years ago when they were originally established in Ijebu land and spread to other parts of Yoruba land

I don't know what you're trying to say practice and involvement in traditional African religions and cultures have drastically declined over the years ajd so has the amount of people joining Ogboni Society groups in different parts of Yoruba land they may still be there but their influence isn't and neither are their numbers.

I disagree. In everything done 20 decades ago, everything has been revolutionalized. Old ways have become more sophisticated and re-packaged.

There's nothing to disagree with support of traditional religions and cultures has reduced drastically other the years and is only beginning to go up now but even then the support is not as great as it was back when the Ogboni was the arm of all governments in Yoruba land.

Smiles. Ogboni is not any group of priests of Ifa. And this information of yours is not inline with ORF or the ibìlẹ̀ version. Ifaodu is a stand alone institution of cosmology, Yoruba language, religious world view, political, Yoruba memoir, science, medicine, commerce and guide to all other facets of Yoruba mode of life.

Besides, it is always great when one doesn't get messed up while posting wrong information about an association one has no knowledge of either as a potential member or non member.

Seriously, if you want you to know about ogboni, which is not a demonic thing or association but certain information must not be posted in the public domain.

It takes nothing much from you if you're interested, because the way you asume about the sect is wrong because there is nothing bad about the association until you are a member after being initiated in which you obey the rules and regulation as stipulated by the sect's constitution.

Ogboni as an association has a code of conduct and they are seen everywhere, in which you can talk to them without being harrassed by the sect members and be made comfortable
