The advantage outweighs the disadvantage for me. I'll choose home school any day.
I had my junior high classes at home. There are other ways to meet and interact with others apart from a school environment.

RedEnergy:
Homeschooling is cool. One advantage is better one-on-one teaching experience and more personalized attention from teachers since your child or children. Disadvantage is peer-to-peer learning and interaction with other students is minimal or non-existent. Peer-to-peer interaction among students helps children develop faster in aspect of social interaction and mental development.

Exactly my point. The kind of system running by the world right now and the victims it has harvested doesn't support a wise person whose aim is to raise exceptional kids to subscribe into any outdoor schooling where teachings are taught be many random and careless teachers and mixing with victimized peers who are half baked from home but fully cooked by the evil doctrines of the society.

Be satisfied early, so that you'd have time to rightly mentor your children.

Until I get a stable job/income I'd rather home school my daughter...

What are the pros and cons of homeschooling... Or should I just take her to an affordable regular school?

I won't say anything

Just take her to school that u can afford, get a home tutor or better still take her on lessons after school,

U can't be working and be teaching the child always, remember when u go to work, the child will be home playing and if u get back,u teach and cus of the plays, the child won't easily remember things...

Yes. Home schooled children concentrate more than regular school children

Can a home schooled child compete with her peers in regular classrooms?

I don't think so

Home schooling ... how good are you as a teacher? .. how old is the child?... can you break down a topic so the child will understand?... just imagine Soyinka teaching a 5 year old... get my drift? What will you be teaching ... your curriculum? English is fine ... that's stable ... what about science ... are you going to teach what you were taught during your days? Socialisation... you're an excellent teacher ... up to date in all subjects... child grabbed everything ... "A" student anywhere.... but your child is used to being in a bubble... your home circle and environment... how would he manage when tossed out all alone in the wide world of a million personalities?
In school ... what they teach should... should be keeping pace with the rest of the world. In school allows a child to develop socialization skills ... how to communicate with others... to make connections... to develop a huge friend base ... to learn to work with others...etc. Ones that don't have such exposure when young often find it difficult to get along with others later in life and pretty much become loners. I said my piece.

You can't teach her proper Children's Socialisation in home-schooling naa.
She will learn Communication Skills faster when she mingles with kids in a formal school setting.
..
She can't learn fast at playgrounds or in playgroups, because those at the playgrounds tend to do some natural selection, and they would drop her off while playing if her socialising and communication skills are not naturally up to what they desire at the playground, and this will make her feel somewhat rejected.
..
But in a school setting, the teacher makes sure that no kid is left behind in the growth and development cycle, and each class becomes one big socialising unit where nobody gets dropped due to any form of natural selection

Please go ahead. I believe parents are the best to tutor their kids well and faster because kids will take lil time to understand which many teachers may dind quite stressful because of number of kids they have to attend to.

Though my kids go to school but I always personally tutor them almost everyday after they come back from school. I'm teaching them like 2 classes ahead their present classes. My daughter who is in just KG is already doing basic addition which they haven't taught them.

My son can do singular and plural, clock/time identification, addition in hundreds, tens and Units. All these they haven't done in his present class.

You will enjoy the bonding it creates with yiur kid and you will see your children becoming more and more fond of books. That's the best way to groom academically bright kids.

This is not to downplay the importance of regular schooling as it has its own advantages but if you dont have the financial wherewithal for that now, don't beat yourself over it and just watch the kid sit at home. Go ahead and coach your kid to how you want him/her to be

May good God provide for you not to fail as parents

After home schooling, who will give them certificate/results? And recognized by who?
you can register them in a school to write their exams.. that's what I did for my students, I registered them in a school to write their BECE (both State exam and NECO)

not all parents can teach or are good teachers, so if you can afford it you can employ teacher(s) to come be teaching them at home

if you can teach or a good teacher, homeschooling is a good idea and it works

I have seen a quite number of success stories of homeschooling, at least for their basic education

Kids in primary schools are only being taught to read and write and do basic calculations in mathematics every other thing is just bonus, and you can do that yourself at home, just make sure the kid socialize outside the home

I hope you don't turn your child to an artificial introvert. Take your child to any affordable school & him/her after school.

Ideal questions here..

Mine to you OP is how you intend to go about this extensively, will you be able to devote that much needed time and attention esp with job hunting, joggling with house chores and all that? Homeschooling is okay so long as you can comfortably figure your way around it.

It won't work esp in Nigeria.
Kids that attend regular schools still have 2 or more home school tutors.
The facilities, environment, competition is lacking.
Re: Home Schooling Versus Regular School by eitsei(m): 10:48am On Sep 13, 2021
with this outrageous fees schools charge nowadays and a lot of irrelevant things they teach kids, homeschooling might be the way to go

it will give you opportunity to monitor your kids well yourself and you will be in control of what they get exposed to

but are you a good teacher? can you teach kids? if you can't teach and you can afford it, you should get a teacher for your kid(s) for primary school education because for primary school, a child only needs how to read and write and carry out basic arithmetics

Homeschooling can work and it works.. I have seen quite number of success stories

I used to be a regular school teacher before I started homeschooling 2 kids and they just finished writing their BECE exams, I registered them in a school around to write both state exams and NECO

the only downside to it is socialization, you should let your kids socialize outside your home if you are going to homeschool them

Very correct. You have to be brilliant and be able to teach. You can cater to the child, and easily identify academic strengths and weaknesses of the child

Home schooling is wonderful however, you must consider socialization gap that it will create in your kids. Except where you have to factor in taking them to a park where they can associate with other kids every weekend.

Did I hear someone say register your children in Government school? The government schools we attended those days are not the same now. Missionary schools are far better than government schools today.
