What a disaster, how can someone eats up 100% of their earnings consistently ?

No substantial savings or investment plan. He needs to relocate immediately, trim accommodation to not more than 20k monthly, estate 5k per month and channel that expense to monthly investments

80% of my monthly earnings goes into investment. Asides food, i don't spend money

Accommodation and Estate fees 25,000 per month, saves 60,000

Internet 6k per month is okay. Saves 4000

Clothing 5k per month is okay. Saves 5000

Miscellaneous spending 25,000 per month

The person is wasting a total of 94,000 - 100,000 per month hat could have been channeled into investments

What kind of investments do you place your money?

It's simple really! He just needs to cut down on some expenses and save more. Things like dstv, eating out and chills, data. I mean who feeds with 2,5 a day!? Oga, cook your meals. Prepare sandwiches and take to the office as your lunch!
Laundry at 10k? Where does he live? Ikoyi? Find a cheaper cleaner or wash your clothes yourself, albeit your suits to the cleaner.
Which one is gifts at 10kper month? Are you Daddy Warbucks? Father Christmas?
See.. already your friend is living above his means. At this rate, he will not be able to maintain a family.
My advice is for him to cut off every expense that he can handle by himself. Even DStv which he's barely home 5 working days. It's not necessary.
A young person should be saving at least, 25% of his salary..
Good luck to him.

Someone earns about 400k monthly which is suppose to be a very good salary, but his expenses despite frugal is not cutting it.. he has been advised on marriage countless times, but he does not just know how to support such. He tries to make people see reason as to why the "big boy tag" does not fit because he cant see it at all..

- his job prevents me from cooking and he really does not know how to cook either, really really bad at cooking.
- he stays in an apartment of 1m/annum, which is somewhat not luxury I think.

Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed)
Security - 5,000 monthly
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly
Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Laundry - 10,000 monthly
Feeding - 77,500 (2,500/day)
Hangout/chills/network - 30,000 (7,500/week)
Clothing/wears/accessories - 10,000 (monthly)
Electricity bill - 10,000(monthly)
Gifts - 10,000(monthly- No wife/No GF)
Home maintenance/personal care- 10,000 (monthly)
Healthcare miscellenous - 5,000 (monthly)
Internet data - 10,000 (monthly)
Recharge card - 16,000 monthly (500 daily)

Total = N395,200
Savings - 7,800

How in the world would he explain to people that he does not have. He is an introverted character and a very frugal in finances. He didnt not factor in furnishing et all.. he has no school fees and multiple mouths to feed.

What are you saying OP I know people with children managing 30k a month I swear, if you get that kind of salary you are extremely rich in Nigeria

He lives a pennywise-man-foolish lifestyle. How can you be paying rents almost thrice your monthly net income?

Just look at the whole expenses listed there!

If I were earning ₦400k, I'd relocate to a flat where I can pay at maximum, ₦250k yearly (and that's because I want to have a family). A two bedroom flat is okay for a start.

I'd use my first monthly to pay it off, doing a little refurbishment too. I like to buy foodstuff in bulk so I am definitely going to spend up to ₦80k for it. If I don't have a freezer, I wouldn't bother buying goods that are too perishable. I would save for a freezer and a generator together.

Exchange the generator and consequently fuel oil and repair cost for inverter or solar panel. Spend once and get done with power permanently.

Dig a well and pump water out of it, so water is gone. If you live in a flat, then it should be possible to route the water through a purifier and circulate it through your house.

Have you considered the issue of transportation and distance in your analysis? You can't be working in VI and be living in Ikorodu! That's the only place where u can get a 2 bedroom for 250k. You will spend double the amount of rent on transportation within 6 months and get hospitalised frequently.

The only mistake the OP made was the excessive peripheral costs. Otherwise, I'd say his budget is adequate for Lagos.

Well, you have a point.

I think he is just too wasteful on a 400 k salary, he is pratically spending himself into poverty

Use https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living to calculate standard and Average cost of living per city accross the world and you might understand something is fundermentally wrong with your friend

I have lived in Ajman, Dubai, Sharjah, and Abudhabi, UAE,

Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Abuja in Nigeria

Muscat , Oman

And take out price variation regarding rent and utility... I can categorically say your friend is wasteful

✓Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed) a sensible Batchelor lives in a single bedroom apartment or shared apartment so Rent should be ₦42,000 a month for a single room within such complex

Security - 5,000 monthly a single Halogen security officer cost ₦30000 and can secure a full building you should not pay more than ₦2000
Estate security - 3,000 monthly in a gated estate you pay single security levy and not multiple

Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly

Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly what do you need 300 litters of petrol for in a month you either get a place close to work or use a more Economic car
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)

Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Laundry - 10,000 monthly

For a single guy/lady. It is perfect.

For a family with kids, the parents must double their hustle. Family income of not less than 1m per month is needed to meet the family's needs like education, vacation, health, professional development, accommodation, sufficient savings and other responsibilities.

LOL. 1 m? You are disconnected from the Nigerian reality. You have to climb off your high horse and smell the coffee.

There are families of four five six who live on less than 100k per month. And they are not dieing.

There is a cloth for every size.

BTW, how many people get jobs that pay 400k? Let's just be grateful. What you have (no matter how small) is wealth to others...

I have to buy the major things so as to enable me begin to save. Sorry I didn't tell you, I don't save. I actually invest. I'd start up sth else with the saving..rather than living it lying adamant.

It's not a must to live a big boy life!

Look at the figures he uses to flex. To spend on top drink and woman!

So e no fit wash cloth or save up for a washing machine and drier?

Data for ₦10k? E should kuku send a CV to PornHub. Abi free WiFi no dey workplace?

Recharge card for ₦15k? Sure this uncle want to live long in this life? Even Elon Musk doesn't recharge ₦15k.

Cleaner ₦5k? En hand dey pain am? Why can't he marry and send this to his wife instead?

In fact, let me stop analysing. How old is his stupidity if I may ask?

Tell him to use the savings of ₦7800 to buy GO90 and Snipper and drink! He doesn't deserve to waste the oxygen others need. Better still, make una call Cele people to flog out the Aso-Rock demon in him.

It's nice to cloth your clothes according to your cloth size.

No go dey compete with people who depend on their family when your family depends on you!

I feel you bro. At least he should be able to save between 1.5 and 2 million at end of the year. You cannot justify this your 250k apartment because everything depends on location. You don’t expect him to move to Sango ota in Ogun state if his job location is at ikoyi / Victoria Island area. If I work in Ikeja area then living in Sango area will not be a burden at all. House rent takes the lion shares of workers salary in Lagos

He is a wasteful spender, he is not living Nigeria reality, Nigeria working class like to live very well below their means, that is what he is yet to realize. There are people in his neighborhood he will be thinking he earn more than where as they earn more than him by far. First he should look for a cheaper house, if he want to save money he should look for a house that a month salary can pay for maybe a house of 250 - 350k annually. Except if he lives on the mainland and work on the island, he should go and pack or even sell his car for now. He should run from anything that will cause too much of debit alert every month.

With 400k, he should not try to live the big boy life at all, his focus should be on how to secure his future. Save more and live on less, that is how Nigerians live. It's food that make a lot of people spend too much in Nigeria because food is too expensive

This guy is not frugal nah. For an introvert 30k is too much for hangouts. Unless you dont know the meaning of introvert.
There are many things he can do without and others he can do quarterly. You didnt specify which sector he is in sef. And gifts is for who?

He can do without DSTV
Clothing can be done quarterly or twice a year.
Hangouts can be cheaper
Clearly this guy is trying to be a big man.
