In a shocking addition to the shocking things that have been plaguing Nigeria of recent the NYSC in a new handbook claimed to have been released to new corpers seems to be forewarning corpers on the possibility of being kidnapped and even went further to advise them to always be intouch with a relative who could pay ransom in the event of any kidnap shocked

"When travelling in high risk roads such as Abuja -Kaduna, Abuja - Lokoja - Okene or Aba - Port-Harcourt roads, then alert your family members, friends and colleagues in order to have someone on hand to pay off the ransom that could be demanded."


Is this what Nigeria has reduced to?

I am really heart broken seeing this

Notice how they used the words " pay off " as if to suggest it's some type of debt being paid

But it's not an NYSC thing. It's a Nigerian thing. So them just say make dem advise una on time. To avoid stories that touch know at least 1 or 2 people wey fit pay like 500 - 700k when dem nab you

Federal government literally saying, if you get kidnapped we won't pay any ransom. To Aspiring corps members posted to the volatile areas in the north please think twice before you honour the call up letter because the government don't give two words about your lives. Quite unfortunate.

Your life as a young person is completely meaningless and worthless to the Nigerian Govt.

This page from the NYSC booklet is a simple way of saying “if you get kidnapped, we won’t pay any ransom. If they kill you so be it”.

Any person who is earning income in Nigeria should be setting aside "ransom" money. It is the new normsl in Nigeria. If you are visiting Nigeria, please have at least N5m set aside to pay ransom. More reason I relocated my family

If NYSC isn't necessary for public office why do people feel the need to get it? Rules for thee not for me for politicians? I'm sure private sector employers don't care much.

It gets even worse reading through other pages of the handbook.

Imagine the government advising u not to disclose Ur place of work (NYSC), instead they are advising u tell them about Ur friend's and families who should negotiate for Ur release.

So the government is comfortable using corpers( full graduate) for cheap labour, pay 33k as their salary, no health insurance in place and then shifts the responsibility of their safety to their friends and families?

No government has been more irresponsible than this present government. The government can't even help itself but show its dictatorial side by ordering any kidnapped corper ro not speak with the press even after their parents must have sold their assets to secure their release.

If u voted this Govt on second term, u need to be prayerful because normally thunder supposed fire u.

Do you still think NYSC is valuable to our development mentally and Financially?

Most of this billionaires didn't even serve. Yet we kill ourself everyday to go for a high risk low paying government enforced service in places prone to harming and killing the corps members.
