A former Commissioner for Information in Niger State, Comrade Jonathan Vatsa has accused northern politicians of taking advantage of the disunity among their southern colleagues, in the discussions on the fast approaching 2023 general elections. He urged the south to unite, if they must achieve their dream in the forthcoming election cycle.

This follows the controversial remarks by the Spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Alhaji Hakeem Baba Ahmed suggesting that the north will continue to cling to power after the tenure of President Muhammodu Buhari.

Vatsa, while speaking to journalists in Minna, the Niger State capital, also accused some Southern politicians of always licking the boots of their Northern colleagues to the detriment of the political development of their region.

New Telegraph reports that Vatsa, who was one time Information Commissioner in the administration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, also took a swipe on the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai over his comments on the country’s presidency come 2023, saying: “Until such a time that the South will unite, speak and act with one voice the north will continue to dominate the political landscape of Nigeria.

He added that “the Northern politicians and other elites have discovered the weaknesses of their Southern counterparts. They explore these weaknesses and use it to their advantage.

“One strong weapon the North is holding and capitalising on is the disunity among the Southern political elites; it has been there since independence. Again, the North sponsors crisis among them because there are people from the South who are more loyal to the North than even their own people.

“The truth is, when you have that kind of situation, it will be difficult for the south to come together,” Vatsa said.

Yorubas paid their dues and sacrificed more than all others to get APC where it is today. Therefore Yorubas are only demanding what they have earned meritoriously .

Southern "unity"

The north being manipulative again with half truths. The north also has control of the army/paramilitary agencies and highest number of voters, it's the two things that give them the power they brag about, a bonus is also that a large population is Muslim and share the same ideology.


Take away the gun(military) from the north

Encourage and reward voter participation in the south and reduce their monopoly on voter numbers.

If the north looses any election democratically today there would be a coup. It's why all military assets is strategically located in their region, it's why Amotekun was such a big issue for them.

We don’t care if it is Jonathan, Osinbajo, Tinubu, Rochas, Onu, Amaechi or even Fayemi. We are going to ensure that a southerner emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.

In the same vein, we expect those of you from the south that supports PDP to push for the same agenda. Push for Peter Obi, Ekweremadu, Makinde, Wike etc to contest for the party’s ticket. Southern "unity" doesn't exist. The south is the SE, SW, SS. Each has different ambitions.

The SE wants the Presidency or VP at a minimum. The SW wants the Presidency and currently has the VP. The North is prepared to give the SE the VP position without a fight, the same way it was given to the SW under Buhari. The only fight the SE has is from their brothers in SS pushing for any and all Igbo and Igbo "subgroups" to be able to get a chance, but that is an in-house fight and they will sort themselves out.

What deal does the SW have for the SE where they benefit from southern unity?

The SE at a minimum will accept VP, nothing less. This is what the North is prepared to offer, the only other offer that trumps VP is Presidency. And we all know the SW will rather not vote than to vote a SE man President. So the choice is clear for the SE/SS, NE/NC.

The SW is not the "south", but a politically isolated region about to go back into being the perpetual opposition. Greed is not good, but when your region isn't used to power, greed is a natural byproduct.

The SW benefited the most from this current administration. Most of the Federal infrastructure was directed to the SW, roads, bridges, rails, power projects. No other zone, including the NE, NW, and NC have been marginalized under this APC government controlled by the SW.

That is why a Northern President is needed to balance things for other regions. This administration was the turn of the SW, the next turn is the turn of the NC or NE, and the North is willing to give the SE the VP position.

What position will the NC and SE get under a SW candidate? Politics is about offering things that appeal to regional interests to get regional votes. Each region must be carried along, the North may be behind in certain areas, but the south is still learning when it comes to inclusive politics.

Fulani are the vilest creatures in the world. Elrufai was with El zazaky pretending to be a friend of the Shiites but shortly after they gave him his votes, he turned against them till date. Buhari was always in bourdilion begging Tinubu for partnership but now fulani are turning against the same man that helped buhari when he failed three times previously. The blood of betrayal is in every fulani.
