Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has backed the call for the Presidency to move to the South in 2023.
Naija News reports that the South Governors had on two occasions demanded that the 2023 presidency should go to the Southern region of the country.

But the Northern Governors at a meeting in Kaduna last month rejected the idea of a southern presidency in 2023, claiming the demand is unconstitutional.

In an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Shekarau stated that it would be unfair for another Northern to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The Senator representing Kano Central in the National Assembly stated that zoning the 2023 Presidency to the South is the best thing to do in the interest of justice and fairness.

The former minister asked the governors to rather dialogue and lobby their Northern colleagues in order to make their wish come true.

He also berated the Northern governors for saying that the demand of their Southern counterparts is unconstitutional, asking them to thread with caution.

There is nothing like "The South"! That thing only exists in the minds of some northern political opportunists and their treacherous allies elsewhere.. What we had at independence was The North, The West and The East! Then, we had further mutations post 1963..
The group that went to the London constitutional/independence conferences, upon which the decisions and agreements that paved the way for the elections that led to an independent Nigeria were led by Azikiwe, the Sarduana and Awolowo., Representing the North the West an the East.

This new attempt to lump the East and the West together as some kind of an imaginary "Southern Nigeria" full of harmony and political togetherness is nothing but a clever attempt by the South West and their cousins the Fulani-north to always assign the slot of the south to the northern favourite lackey in the south; the South West. The North has now ruled Nigeria for almost 10 solid years since 1999. The south west has done a solid 8 years. Power must go to the East. Otherwise, you guys should let my people go..
