Ogun Demands 45% For States In Allocation Sharing Formula by Nkemakonam62: 4:47am On Oct 06, 2021
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has called for an upward review of States revenue allocation sharing formula from 26.7 percent to 45 percent.

Under the current revenue sharing formula, the Federal Government takes 52.68 percent, the states 26.72 percent and the local government councils, 20.60 percent with 13 percent derivation revenue going to the oil nine producing states.

But Abiodun, in canvassing for the upward review, submitted that the current formula is no longer in tune with economic realities

He said the increase would allow for “more developments in the states.”

Abiodun, who was represented by his Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo, said this in Lagos while speaking at the South West Zonal Public Hearing on Review of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Abiodun also noted that there should be a downward review of the allocation of the federal government to 30 percent.

Making the proposal, the Governor said the formula should be reworked to stand as 30 percent to Federal; 45 percent to states; and 25 percent to Local governments, as against the current stand.

Abidoun also wants the Exclusive List amended to allow each tier of government to concentrate on areas that will better touch the lives of the people.

The governor, who attributed the current imbalance in the revenue sharing formula to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, particularly the Exclusive Legislative List, maintained that States have increasingly borne significant additional increase in managing issues relating to maintenance peace, security, education, infrastructural development, and social welfare programmes, among others.

The State Government further called for a review of the Social Development Factor of the allocation formula in line with modern day realities areas of education, health and population, saying, “population density should replace population and land mass as independent factor in revenue allocation”

What has the Federal Government that has been collecting 52.68% done with it?

All the 3 tiers have been mismanaging their allocations.

Tell me what’s feasible for someone who is generating the money. I would have asked for 65% in all fairness

You can do better by asking for total control of financial resources in your states and send 30% of it to the central govt. That is what the 36 states should rather fight for

Southern Governors should start speaking up. This is part of the constitution amendment.

In as much we can argue all day as these governors have failed to utilize the allocation from the center, we can't feign ignorance of the massive looting and mismanagement at the federal level too. First, the governors must agree of LGA autonomy.

At least, some governors will not have much excuses to give like my dear lkpeazu.

The best thing is to allow every states to generate revenue and manage it by themselves.

Enough of this useless and endless percentage allocation drama.

There is not going to be any sharing formula that will suit everyone.

Restructuring is the best option if we must tell ourselves the truth.

They should take up this issue and battle it out in court.

It's nice that some states have jettisoned party politics because money is involved, like. Though there interest is personal, I know that in the long run it will be finally be beneficial to the people as such the fight should continue till victory is gotten.
This will ensure that state government are productive and also the local government as well will put on their thinking and creative cap to ensure that the development process in Nigeria is on the go.

Why is FG reaping from where it didnt sow for goodness sake? The president is too powerful in Nigeria. No wonder they say states cannot fund police. What the heck is going on. Let each states control its resources 100% biko. Let them pay to Federal Government only tax which should not be more than 12% or so. Let abuja face only foreign affair. Let each state carries it's own destiny. Why should states be responsible for the poverty of all. This is why Nogeria is backward. Each state with its destiny. Biko!

Who are the idiotasss who made this law sef? Ha ba!
