ACN makes U-turn, embraces GNU *Adopts guarded participation policy
Written by Jacob Segun Olatunji, Abuja

IN a clear reversal of its earlier rigid stance on participating in the Government of National Unity (GNU) being proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has reviewed its position and is now ready to board the transformation train.

An impeccable source in the party exclusively told the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, on Thursday, that its leadership had, however, resolved that its participation would be based on "guarded participation policy."

According to the source, "ACN is going to participate in proposed Government of National Unity (GNU) and its participation will be based on "guarded policy," that is to say, all the appointments will be routed through the party's leadership, which will serve as a clearing house.

"The president will not just go on air to announce names of just anybody for any appointment on the platform of the ACN. The cards will be placed on the table; we will know what is going to be allocated to our party. The leadership of the party will meet and search for suitable members, who can deliver the goods for such slots. That is our stand," he declared.

The Nigerian Tribune learnt that some slots comprising ministerial positions, ambassadorial seats, boards as well as other political appointments had already been set aside for the main oppositions such as the ACN, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP), Labour Party (LP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

It was gathered that Wednesday's meeting of President Jonathan with the leadership of the main political parties, except the CPC, was part of the efforts being made to persuade the opposition groups to put the general election behind them and embrace the GNU in order to move the nation forward.

The meeting held behind closed door at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, was attended by leaders of the opposition parties, except the CPC's General Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently challenging the electoral victory of President Jonathan of the PDP at the tribunal.

Emerging from the meeting, spokesman of the ACN delegation, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, described it as very successful and a right step in a right direction taken by President Jonathan.

The leadership of the ACN had earlier vowed to expel any of its members who "takes any appointment with the PDP-controlled government at any level," advising any of its members contemplating such appointments to first resign his/her membership of the party.

Meanwhile, a two-day retreat, being organised by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for its elected members under new political dispensation, will begin today in Abuja.

Those being expected at the retreat on the theme "Legislative and Executive Branch Collaboration: A New System for National Transformation," include President Jonathan, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, governors and National Assembly members-elect.

Popular media is largely majority Party controlled and used mainly partisanly in Nigeria for propaganda than honest and unbiased reportage. It is partly how the PDP continues  to bamboozle and distract politically unsophiticated Nigerians despite , in reality, leading our nation very badly to deserve being booted out resoundingly. It is why Obama stated that we need strong and independent institutions . the ACN is a stronger opposition Party now and the PDP will do everything to malign the name and reputation of the ACN to distract from the lack of performance of its administrators . it is what they did in the past.  I.e they focused on calling folks "rascals" and attacking the ACN while they had nothing better to offer and actually only provided thugs (Oyinlola, Agagu, Alao-Akala, ODG, Oni et al) who decimated their respective SW State with gross misrule.

I am not asking you not to post what you like but be careful not to be used in the propaganda which will now be unending against a Party the PDP is now scared of.  There will also be undeserved knocks for the ACN from those who hated the PDP yesterday but now feel the need to support the Party because it is the political platform of their "son". The campaign of calumny against the ACN , with an ulterior motive, and the non-stop desire to "give the Party a bad name to hang it" is something we should all get used to. I suggest objective folks simply wait for the response of the ACN before they believe what is written by those who will have us think the ACN Party is the worst under the sun while Nigerians and non-Nigerians , home and abroad, know the Political Party that has destroyed Nigeria over a span of 12 years. Read the response of the ACN , to the article you supply, below and tell me if it does not make perfect sense to objective folks who have no axe to grind with the ACN.

Ribadu too consistently denied doing any deals with GEJ , by constantly asserting he was contesting to get the chance to move Nigeria forward, yet his unforgiving and biased detractors kept up the propaganda to dismiss him as a compromised "spoiler" for GEJ. Where is Ribadu today? Abi he failed to stick around to collect his reward for a "spoiler" job well-done?

GNU: ACN Denies Making U-Turn

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has denied a report published  in some national dailies that it had made a U-turn and decided to join the Government of National Unity (GNU) being planned by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The party, in a release signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated: ‘’We hereby state, for the umpteenth time, that we will not participate in any GNU.

‘’Reports that we have embraced the GNU and adopted a ‘guarded participation policy’ amount to sheer fallacy, and should be treated as such by all our members and supporters,’’ it said.

The party said it was  curious to conclude that by participating in a meeting convened by President Jonathan in Abuja, the ACN has automatically reneged on its earlier decision not to join the GNU.

‘’Indeed, we were represented at that meeting by a powerful delegation led by our chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, simply because it will amount to sheer arrogance to shun a meeting convened by the president to discuss nothing more than the issue of Nigeria, in which we are all stakeholders.

‘’However, when we received the letter of invitation, we immediately wrote back to the presidency, asking to be intimated with the agenda of the meeting.

When no response was forthcoming, we went to the meeting with a letter  in which we reiterated our decision not to participate in any GNU, for the simple reason that a unity government in peace time can only stifle democracy and facilitate the emergence of a one-party state, which will in turn breed unbridled corruption.”

Hahahha! I guess it's the weekend, and time for another round of tribalism, abi be ko?

You missed the point, all the Igbo you listed are not convicts,,,,it's mere speculation that they stole anything from us. In the absence of any conviction, we, the people of the dungeon called can all agree that they are honest and upright by any moral standard cool.

On the contrary, the ones of SW extraction (apart from Shonekan) are all ex-cons and we nigerians all agree to that status bestowed on them! NO SHAKEN cheesy
