The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has presented a brand new car to the overall winner of the Best Teacher in Private Secondary School category in Nigeria, Oluwasanjo Ogunleye.

Abiodun equally accepted the request of Ogunleye to transfer his service as a technical and vocational education expert from the private education sector to the public service.

Presenting the car gift to the teacher at his office in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday, the governor said that he had no doubt in the ability of Ogunleye to bring his wealth of experience into public service.

“Mr Ogunleye has graciously offered himself for public service and I think that is an offer we should not take lightly; the offer should be immediately accepted particularly because of the posture of this government as it relates to the technical and vocational education training.

“I do not doubt that with his wealth of experience and having distinguished himself as someone who knows what he is doing, he will definitely add value to the technical and vocational education training department,” he said.

Abiodun, while congratulating Ogunleye for his feat, called on teachers in the public service to strive to be the best they can, saying that the feat achieved by the overall best teacher in the private secondary school category in Nigeria should be an inspiration to other teachers in the state.

“I want to encourage other teachers in the state to continue to strive to be the best in their chosen profession, this should be an inspiration to all teachers across the length and breadth of Ogun State.

“We’ve our students winning awards in the science and technical education and mathematics awards, and I don’t have a doubt that Ogun will continue to lead in education,” the governor stated.

In his remarks, Ogunleye commended the governor for the presentation of the vehicle, noting that it is a privilege to serve in the state.

“I want to commend the governor for his laudable project and support for education. Those of us in private schools see what is going on and we are encouraged by all that the governor is doing. Indeed, our governor is a silent achiever.

“If there is any privilege to serve too in the public so that I can plough back, I wouldn’t mind because I can now do my best.

In the public schools, we have the student population and I can really help being an expert in technical and vocational education and training,” Ogunleye said.

Give them good salaries and ensure that they have a place to live...

Teaching is a very difficult profession and the first and the only profession that will live into many generations... yet teachers are the most looked down on...

Until we look into the teaching profession, learning will be a difficult thing in Nigeria....
