Fayinka Calls For Grassroots Participation In Politics by Oluwabash(m): 8:52am On Dec 20, 2021
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Hon. Toyin Fayinka, has called on young people to participate actively in the political process in the country.

Fayinka made this call at the second edition of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mushin-Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Branch retreat themed: “A New Nigeria: Take Part To Part Charge” on Saturday in Lagos.

In his address, Fayinka said that young people must first get their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to be politically active in politics. He stressed that the only one way young people can actively contribute in the electioneering process is by getting involved.

He reminded the audience that for a very long time, the political space and electioneering processes have been occupied by the aged. This, he said can be overturned when young people fight for access into the main polity of the nation.

Fayinka also said that getting involved in electioneering means building up their own numbers that can subdue the old guard. This he said also has to come with the spirit of perseverance as the terrain is not entirely smooth.

“The change we clamor for is inevitable but we have to start from the grassroot and not from social media,” Fayinka said.

Chief Host of the retreat, Comrade Afonja A.I, in his short remarks applauded Hon. Fayinka for using his good office to engage and empower young people in the state, especially from Mushin constituency and presented him a Certificate of Recognition.

Participants at the retreat also received Certificate of Participation from Mrs. Fayinka.

Other dignitaries at the retreat are, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, Chairman, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA; Hon. Adeyemi Alli, Member representing Mushin Federal Constituency I; Hon. Nureni Akinsanya, Member, Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Bola Obaale, and a host of others.
