Arresting Nwosu in church unacceptable, CAN tells police

The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the arrest of the son-in-law to former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Chief Uche Nwosu, by the state police command on Anglican Church premises.

A statement yesterday by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the Media Assistant to CAN President, Rev Samson Ayokunle, said: “We feel highly embarrassed by this ugly development and feel pained that the Nigeria Police had no respect even for the House of God. We cannot remember whether this act of disrespect for God ever happened before in our country.

“The CAN has nothing to apologise for over what the police did because we were never and would never be party to their horrendous act. The police that did the disgraceful thing should appropriately apologise without giving any excuse. We expect them to be more circumspect in the performance of their duties.

“We are not asking the police or the security agencies not to do their constitutional duties but the idea of desecrating the House of God in doing so is totally unacceptable, unfortunate and reprehensible.”

CAN urged Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba to call his men to order and continue to respect all houses of worship, whether church or mosque.

It warned: “This type of act should never happen again in our country

The Police force in Nigeria has always been available for any dirty job and has failed as an independent institution that should serve society with dignity. They know nothing about international best practices in doing things...once u mobilize them, give them money for fuel, off they go to make any arrest even if the person is in a labour ward of a hospital. This is why the Supreme Court Governor decided to score an own goal by using them to effect an arrest in a place of worship. I'm surprised that CAN is just waking up after the news became stale.

Hope Uzodinma shot himself in the leg by carrying out such action. Trust Rochas, he will capitalise on this to give him the Ohakim treatment, if you listened to Rochas's interview on Chamnels TV, he kept on hammering on how they desecrated the church and the easterners do not joke with the church especially Catholic and Anglican.
Rochas of course is not a Saint and honestly speaking that man did Imolites bad. He ran Imo state as a family affair, grabbing land and misusing/embezzling our funds.
Either way I think Hope should just do one term and go, his wahala is too much. Oga focus on governance and stop witch hunting Rochas, if there is something wrong that was done by Rochas there are appropriate means of doing things and it should be followed.
To me there is no right or wrong place to arrest a person, even in their place of worship as long as the person is wanted by the police he should be arrested, but give respect to whom respect is due, the church is a house of sanity and things should be done right, they should have waited for the service to be over and when he steps out he is gradually carried away. I wonder if these our police no dy watch foreign movies.

Better late than never. In any case, the "issues" remain fresh for as long as they are still festering and unresolved.

CANcerous CAN.
A Can of CANkerworms.

Only a simpleton will believe these guys represent Christians. They are (mostly) band of rogues.

By the way, if you are a criminal and you run into a church or mosque, we will chase you in and arrest you. God doesn't dwell in buildings made by the hands of filthy men.

Your body is His temple. Even CAN CAN't remember that.

The imo state CAN was hastingly dragged by the state government to release an apology to the Anglican Church. This maybe a rebuttal by the national CAN.

Due to gravity of his accuse, nothing bad about it. If they don't hurt church members. JESUS himself was arrested by the Temple guards of the Sanhedrin in the Garden of Gethsemane. It occurred shortly after the Last Supper. PERSON WER NO COMMIT CRIME.
