Covenant University will be playing host to all Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and other stakeholders in the nation’s Higher Education system at this year’s edition of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) conference taking place at the University’s campus between June 27 and June 30, 2011.

The Conference, which is the 26th in the series and first to be hosted by a Private University, has as its theme: Leadership and Governance in Nigerian Universities: Global Imperatives for Driving Quality and Maximizing Performance”.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. David O. Oyedepo, Chancellor, Covenant University, Ota, who will be speaking on the topic:“Leadership and Governance in Nigerian Universities: Global Imperatives for Driving Quality and Maximizing Performance”.

Guest speakers include Professor Peter Okebukola, former NUC Executive Secretary, whose presentation will focus on “Nigerian Universities and World Ranking: Issues and Strategies and Forward Planning,” Professor Omotade Aina, Programme Director, Higher Education and Libraries in Africa, Carnegie Foundation, USA, will speak on the topic:“Raising the Next Generation of Graduates: Current Realities and Signposts Towards the Future,” Professor Bramwell Osula of the Regents University, USA, will make presentation on “Leadership Models and University Governance – Instituting Global Best Practices,” Professor Aize Obayan, Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Ota, presentation will focus on “Quality Assurance and Management Drivers in the 21st Century University,” and Professor T.O. Olagbemiro, Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, address will focus on “The Nigerian University System: – In Pursuit of Relevance”.

Other Guest Speakers and their presentations are Engr. Umar B. Bindir, Director-General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Abuja, “Standards and Profiling in the Nigerian University System: Project Development, Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights,” Professor Oyebanji Oyeyinka, UN-HABITAT, USA, “Nigerian Universities and Global Trends in Higher Education,”Professor O.A. Bamiro, Immediate past Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, “Innovative Financial Practices for Enhanced University Performance” and Professor V. W. Mbarika, Executive Director, International Centre for Information Technology & Development, (ICITD), USA, “Making ICT a Reality for Africa Higher Education: Research, Training and Funding.”

There will be a roundtable discussion that will have the following distinguished panellists: Professor T. Badejo, Vice-Chancellor, Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo, Ondo State, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Kano State, Professor A.B. Sofoluwe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State and Professor Bolaji Aluko, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

There will also be a Special Roundtable Session for Female Vice-Chancellors, parallel Sessions for Spouses of Vice-Chancellors, Personal Assistants to Vice-Chancellors, exhibitions, cultural display, Special presentations from industries and companies offering special services, among others.

The opening ceremony of the Conference will be graced by dignitaries within and outside the Country including the Ministers of Education, State Governors, NUC Executive Secretary and captains of industry.
