NIGERIA’s Minister of Finance Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed has listed insecurity and past recessions as causes of the nation’s spending problems. We have heard from the Minister that insecurity and recessions are the reasons for the damned country's huge spending. But, the Minister REFUSED to tell Nigerians the reasons for the insecurity and recessions pervading the landscape. |

The deficit can easily be halved by taking the following measures: 1. Remove the fuel subsidy and dereguate the price. This will save roughly 2 trilion 2. Lift the ban on many good and tax them instead. This should easily raise N500bn 3. Reduce the Naira's value at the official rate to 470. This would increase revenue by $11b x 50 =550bn 4. Introduce pro business policies so the economy can perk up, hitting growth rates of 5-6%. A fast growing economy increases revenues while a "dead" economy like what the country has been experiencing since PMB assumed power plunges it. This should easily raise 400bn extra Total raised is : 3.45 tr. This is more than half the deficit. The amount that can be raised can be much higher if there's better tax collection. The figure should easily hit 5trillion. 1 Like |
