10 dead, 8 rescued, others trapped as Church building collapses in Delta during first service

THE building housing Salvation Ministry, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State, has collapsed, trapping unspecified number of worshippers with over 10 deaths recorded.

The building, which is being used for the first time, reportedly collapsed at about 5:55p.m. during Tuesday’s evening service.

Vanguard reports that about eight persons have been rescued unhurt, while four persons have been rushed to the Asaba Specialist Hospital.

At the time of filing this report, Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah; the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi, team of Red Cross officers, and fire fighters were on ground on a rescue mission.

With rescue operations ongoing, worshippers, family members and sympathisers were seen crying.

Hmmn. Investigations has to be carried out on this sad event. I do hope no substandard materials where used during the construction. Quick recovery to those who made it alive and rest in peace to the dead. It's all going to be good. Pp

Why are you attributing your government's incompetence to religion? If institutions like the FCDA and co were up and running , there would be no need for tragedy like this.

First meet your government to improve on the standards of illicit buildings littering the country and see if God won't work His magic

This tragedy is very avoidable.
The ongoing renovation work may have tempered with the foundation & structure of the storey building.
Adherence to building code and standard in this clime is often sacrificed on the altar of cutting corners and sharp, corrupt practices.

People have right to worship God. If you like believe in No God...one day you too will go. Dead had nothing to do with religion or not. Please show some respect. Call religion scam or not. Those regulating the product we use in this country should wake up and stop collecting bribes for substandard products
