Landing Gist Guys!

Hi everyone, good afternoon and I’m sorry I’m just posting this now, since i got here on Monday. Been trying to get myself together.

So I booked my flight with Qatar Airways and i had a connecting flight at Qatar with AirCanada to Toronto. My flight was for by 7. 50pm (Abuja to Doha (Qatar) on the 10th of this month. I got to the airport by 3.14pm, i had checked in online and selected a seat already. As soon as i got to the airport, i paid #500 for trolley. At the entrance a guy was there and he asked for my proof of vaccination which I showed him and he scanned it to verify, he allowed me pass. I dropped my stuff on the security slide stuff and the computer showed i had something liquid in my ghana must go bag, they assumed it was palm oil and started searching the bag and it was only shampoo so they let me pass. I used the lift to go upstairs where you’ll find different desks representing different airlines. I went to Qatar Airways and My boxes and bags where overweight. My ghana must go bag was 23.7kg and my Box was 24.6kg. The guy attending to me was trying to let it slide until one busy body girl came to start making noise saying i must reduce the items and I’m not allowed to have a backpack, hmmmmn i sha changed it for her and brought her back to factory setting because something was definitely wrong with her. I didn’t pay anything or take out anything because my bag was still within 23kg, I refused to let her intimidate me. I left her and went to wrap my ghana must go bag and i paid the man 1k. Then I proceeded to check in my bags, the guy asked for my passport and covid vaccination certificate and then he gave me a yellow card and allowed me pass to the front desk. When i got there the lady was so sweet, she asked for my details and I tried to have her help me change my sit on my connecting flight with AirCanada but she couldn’t because the flight was fully booked. She checked my bags and said it was overweight but she didn’t complain she tagged them and checked them in ,collected the yellow card and filled it for me, she was so sweet and she didn’t beg me so I dashed her money. I went back down to say good bye to my siblings. I came back up by 5pm and i went to meet immigration people, the woman just started begging me immediately saying she doesn’t want to keep me here to be answering questions so I should just find something for her, i had only 500 on me so i gave it to her coz I wasn’t going to use it for anything, I proceeded to meet the other immigration officers and they collected the yellow card and stamped my passport and i went to the waiting room, we began boarding by 6.50pm I think. I went to the plane found my seat which was a window seat and I settled in. I must give it to Qatar airways, the plane was clean , legroom was just perfect, hostesses were sweet and the washroom was also very clean. This people wanted to finish us with food, the jollof rice with vegetables and chicken sauce was a banger! ,their movie collection was perfect, in general Qatar Airways did no wrong in my eyes and the flight was smooth, we arrived Qatar by 3.20am but my itinerary said we would airrive by 4.10 am. The airport in Doha was so beautiful and super clean, i went to brush in the washroom and it was also very clean. We sat down to wait for our different connecting flights, i connected to the wifi and left messages for my family members. I couldn’t sleep sef. I kept checking the board to see my boarding gate for my connecting flight. Finally they posted it by 8.am and my flight was by 9am, i asked one of the staff there to direct me to the gate and he did. When i got there i was asked for my ArriveCan, covid vaccination proof and passport, I proceeded to the next check point a lady searched me and asked me to take of my shoes, then I proceeded to the next check point, i was asked for my enrolment letter and passport, which was checked and given back to me. They begged me to check in my hand luggage coz the flight was fully booked and there may not be enough space at the overhead cabin. So I did that and i went to board, I didn’t really like my seat sha, it was an outer aisle seat, it wasn’t bad but I wanted a window seat. Omo i was the only black on that flight, thank God i’m fair small coz I could see they were quite confused about my identity . About 90% of people on that flight were Indians and the remaining where Canadians. I honestly wasn’t impressed by AirCanada, the entire tv sets and charging ports on the aisle roll did not work all through the 14hrs flight, i was bored out of my brains and I couldn’t sleep, food was rubbish and the washroom was messed up, they just kept disturbing us about face mask, they kept saying if you take it down you will be fined. Omo that flight was the longest 14hrs of my life, i was tired, I walked around a bit to stretch my legs. I couldn’t sleep, i had to beg the Lady on the opposite roll to help me charge my phone, she was a Canadian and she was very nice and friendly, talked for a bit lol that’s when I believed that Canadians are really nice like people always say. Finally they served us curry rice before we landed (i’m still suffering from eating that rice), they gave those of us in the aisle roll a coupon that allows us have a discount on our next flight due to the inconvenience all through the 14hrs flight.

We Landed in Toronto by 4.05pm, I proceeded into the airport, the airport was packed full (Qatar Airport is way more beautiful) i used the self declaration machine and proceeded to join the line to see an immigration officer . The line was long ehhh omo everywhere choke. We were legit sitting on the floor for hours. I managed to get my study permit by 10.53pm, I’m not joking the line was terrible, the person that came to pick me since 4 left by 8pm after waiting. Honestly it was not a pleasant experience, just be prepared sha, those with connecting flights missed their flights. I thank God sha i got my study permit and went downstairs to look for my luggage, as God would have it i found them very close to each other. I had to wait for my cousin to come get me after work. We got to her house by 1am. I was drained. But in everything i am grateful to God. Canada is beautiful, the cold is something else. I still bless my God for everything.

I went to Canada yesterday to get my SIN , hmmmmm the line was a continuation of the one from the airport. Went there by 8.30am and i left by 3pm. My legs are numb from standing.

Safe flight to all those coming soon and to those waiting for their PPR , keep trusting God and hold him very tight. It will end in praise.

Again many thanks to Makano and Ketima, may God bless you both and grant all your heart desires. Amen

Please ignore any errors

Good day friends!

PPR dropped this morning at 7:16AM WAT. I am in Canada but I helped my sister with her application. Here is her timeline:

2nd time applicant
Submitted: January 1 2022
Ghost update: January 2 2022
Medicals passed: February 1 2022
No idea when eligibility started
PPR: April 14 2022

Her first application was refused based on financial status and purpose of travel. GCMS notes indicated that there were lump sum deposits in her spouse account and her SOP was poorly written. I wasn't involved in the first application, but with the GCMS notes and advice from fellow Nairalanders, we repackaged and re-applied using the GCKey Portal.

Documents submitted:
All IMM forms
2-page SOP outlining the relevance of the course to her current career (she studied Building but is going for PGD Business Management), home ties are parents, siblings and husband that won't be coming with her, and promotion on return from her studies
Spouse MBS showing savings + printed statement
Spouse Salary account
Spouse payslips
Spouse employment confirmation letter
Her payslips
Her salary account
Her Mutual Funds statement
Letter of explanation for lump sum deposits, explained in tabular form. I didn't add any receipts or evidence, I just stated where they were from and let the narration on the statement corroborate. Like my friend said, 'no too dey shalaye'
Letter of introduction from her office
Her ID Card
Her CV showing the career change
Police clearance certificate
Passport page

We ordered GCMS notes on the 13th of March but we are yet to receive it.

I also reached out to my MP but they said they would check and let me know by the 21st of April.

On the dot of 13 weeks, which is the processing time on the website, we started sending daily emails and weekly webforms, stating that enrolment is in the 15th of April and can they please help. All received generic response. I told her to stop sending emails by that 15th because honestly I was tired of the no response. The PPR email came today.

Her passport expiry was 2023 and her course is 2 years, so we renewed while it waiting and sent the new one via webform. When she is sending the passport to VFS, does she have to send in both or just the new one?

Thanks to everyone on this thread for supporting and helping each other. Special thanks to @Makano, @Anon123, @Ketima and @Lekiboboe for always patiently answering questions. Nairaland doesn't send notifications of responses so I just found out that you all responded to my query on the previous thread. Thank you very much.

For everyone waiting, God will do it.

Hi Freinds! I'd appreciate any insights on this please:

Her passport expiry was 2023 and her course is 2 years, so we renewed while it waiting and sent the new one via webform. When she is sending the passport to VFS, does she have to send in both or just the new one?

Thank you very much makano
I'm honored to get a reply from you
makano:
Hello Lamgrac

Even though payment of school fees doesnt guarantee study permit approval, it increases your chance of getting your application approved because paying of school fees tells the Visa of the applicant's commitment to his or her proposed study in Canada..

When paying the Fees, make sure you let the Visa officer know that you have more than enough funds for your studies and living expenses all through your stay in Canada..

Peace

Thank you very much
I really appreciate grin
technix:
Merely paying part of the tuition fee doesn't 'necessarily' boost your chances of approval. You are mainly required to show that the overall fund is readily available and to address lump sum.

If your school doesn't require a tuition deposit, I won't advise paying deposit.

Smile. Congratulations bro, your story is so inspiring and touchy. I wish you all the best. To the rest of us still expecting PPR, may God answer our prayers. Feb 1st applicant

LavishG:
I finally got my PPR!!!

I've always been a ghost reader on this space, but I have specially created an account because my PPR journey is unlike any I've read here. I applied for a student visa for the third time on 18 November 2021 after 2 refusals but this story doesn't start there. As you listen to my story may you remain blessed.

It starts before I got admission in 2020, you see I've always wanted to study in Canada after Uni, but I was waiting to garner 3years of experience first. But in January 2020 after working for a year, my plan changed.

You see a friend of mine got a Canadian visa in January 2020 after being denied by the US six months earlier and the truth is I was the one who encouraged him to try Canada instead of a second application to the US mainly because I've always had a thing for the country. Maybe its the name, Canada or the country's reputation, but I always told my friends that I would pick a Canadian visa over any other country's visa including the UK and the US.

Covid came in February 2020 and I knew I wasn't going anywhere, anytime soon so I sat tight. Fast forward to August 2020 and I decided to begin my journey. I didnt know about this thread then, so i basically paid the same agent my friend used (quite pricey) for the school and visa application, school admission letter came sharp sharp before the end of September 2020 for the May 2021 term. My friend sef no fit go anywhere since January till September 2020 when he finally left Naija.

Between September and May, I had enough time to process my visa, or so I thought. One bank that has 'a' in their name first delayed my Form A to pay my school fees deposit for the first term. 2weeks still on queue, 3weeks, 4weeks same thing, who I offend like this. #EndSARS came(may the souls of the departed rest in peace and may their sacrifice not be in vain) in October 2020 and I knew that everyone would start applying for visas to leave the country, I needed to move faster.

In November 2020, my parents and I contacted a cousin of mine to help pay my school fees through her company as the deadline for my tuition deposit was fast approaching, at least Bank suppose respect themselves. In a week, they don do the deduction, we sent the equivalent to her, first term fees paid. Thank you very much. It's good to have a big company o.

My dad was to be my sponsor, so we sent all necessary documents to my agent by the first week in December 2020. That's how my agent called and said there's a new this thing called NSE program and it will make them process my kini fast fast, like in 21days and for that I will need IELTS and MyBank statement Certificate. I was just wondering which kind of wahala be this. So I registered for IELTS, I heard people fail it gan so I gave myself one month to prepare, My exam date was in Jan 2021, no be English language again, language that I've been speaking since I was a baby.

January 2021 came and my office promoted me, in my mind I was like thanks but I dey comot here very soon. I wrote the IELTS, passed it (before nko) and entered the wahala of MyBank statement Certificate. You see, my dad's primary bank said they were having network issues or portal issues and that they could not access something something on the MyBank Statement portal, naso another waiting begin.

We entered February 2021 no headway on the MyBank Statement something, remember my term was starting in May 2021. At the end of Feb 2021, we decided maybe my cousin who helped paid my fees should sponsor me as my dad's accounts with other banks did not have the kind of funds that can be proof of anything. My agent sha talk say make we draw family tree, this one and that one as solid proof that my cousin intends to sponsor me and that we are related. Finally we got my cousin's MyBank statement, around N50m was in the account and I was able to make my first application in early March 2021. March 2021 finished, April 2021 came, excuse me, madam agent shebi you said in 21days I will get response. She said
there's a general delay due to volume of applications. Wahala dey o.

By mid April 2021, my school sent a mail for me to register for the session,  I was in a dilemma for a long time on whether I should defer my admission or register. I thought about my life, if I deferred that means I wont be able to graduate in Jan 2023 like I have planned. They said the term was online, so I could start classes here in Naija while I wait for the visa. One of those nights before I could make a decision, I had a dream (I take dreams very seriously because I rarely have dreams or even remember what I dreamt about if I do). In my dream, I was inside a high rise building with glass windows wearing a very nice suit and looking outside. I was looking at a truck or something clearing snow from the road. So definitely no be naija I dey. It was futuristic or something because I felt like Harvey Specter. When I woke up I felt that it must be a confirmation from God because I immediately knew what I needed to do. I needed to register for my classes.

After registering and getting my timetable, I realized another thing, you know I said I was promoted, omo the salary increase no reach the increase in workload. I knew that I couldn't do both school and work as my work didn't end in the office anymore, I was carrying work home, working on weekends and we were at a peak period. If you know any accountants in charge of financial statements, please give special kudos to them. Which time will I use to do the school. Definitely one or both will suffer.

So I decided, I was going to resign from work(Warning: do not try this) if school started before visa came. My application was solid I thought, I had gotten a confirmation, proof of funds choke sef, why they no go give me visa. I had about 4months worth of salary savings (na my papa house I dey stay since) and an investment with one finance company like that.

Visa no come beginning of May 2021 so I dropped my resignation letter, tell HR say I dey go school. She said I should bring evidence to be included in my file, so I gave her my school enrollment letter. Naso she see school for Canada, she didn't know I hadn't gotten the visa yet, before I knew it everyone started congratulating me at the office say I no inform them say I dey travel go Canada. At that point I couldn't tell anyone that visa hadn't come yet, they would have thought I was crazy. I couldn't even tell my parents at home that I had resigned. You know how parents can be especially with the unemployment rate in the country.

So, I registered at a library, that's where I began taking my classes. I would leave home in the morning like I do when going to work and come back in the evening. How anybody wan take know.

Beginning of June 2021 I got two bad pieces of bad news. Firstly, the finance company I had investment in crashed, shebi they said it was SEC certified, my investment with them was gone. I was still healing from the hurt when I got served my first breakfast from the Canadian embassy, Reason: Purpose of Visit and Financial Assets.

Haba, with the proof of funds wey choke for my cousin company account. I spoke with my agent she said they most likely didnt believe my cousin was the one sponsoring me.

That's how I began research and discovered GIC investment Certificate, this is what most of my indian classmates used to show proof of funds. What better way to show proof of fund than to have some money in my name. For my mind, I just be like I go show this embassy people.

With the help of my parents, I purchased CAD12k worth of GIC, minimum for GIC is CAD10k but I wanted to show the embassy say the money dey now, I also paid the fees for my second term. At least now they cannot say any yeye financial assets. So I submitted another application in July 2021 with my dad as my sponsor. We sent printouts of his bank statements this time as well as I felt the GIC and receipt of 2 terms tuition where enough to cover the fact that we didnt have the MyBank statement.

Lo and behold, another breakfast came again in October 2021. Wetin happen this time, they said purpose of visit, family ties and travel history. I almost ran mad. Wetin be all this one. I became angry, are this people playing with my feelings how will you remove one reason and add 2 reasons. By this time I had started my second term.

I felt betrayed, Canada, the country of my dreams was surely a scam. Why didnt they put all this before. I spoke with my school and they said I should either request a refund of the remaining balance of my 2nd term fees or reapply again. I requested for GCMS notes, ladies and gentlemen, there was no detailed reason on my GCMS note like I see here. Just the same generic reason on my letter of refusal. It was as if they didnt even go through my application.

I told my parents that I was dropping out and that I was tired. They encouraged me and told me not to give up yet. I no even answer them because I had mentally signed out. Na to go dey find another work be that o. My former colleagues don dey ask me when I dey comot, na soon I just dey tell everybody say my classes still dey online. Then my dad told me something that restored my belief, he said he had been moving money out of the bank that had MyBank statement issue small small into another bank and that it is better he sponsored me with that account now, he also said I should find out if I could complete the course from Naija. My mum also said she had been saving money and she had about N3m in her account. At that point my belief returned, so I did not withdraw my GIC investment(brethren, no be by GIC o), this time I used both my parents as sponsors, we printed and put all their account statements inside the application plus the ones with shikini money and did MyBank Statement for the 2 major accounts to be used, about N12m in total for both accounts. I included my first term transcripts, notification of award of dean's honour list and all my parents properties in my 3rd application in Nov 2021.

Usually all my applications had always taken 12weeks but the wait for this one was massive. Kiloshele. After 12 weeks, my agent said she was going to contact them and that I should send her my second term transcripts, fortunately I was on Dean's honour list again so I sent everything to her. Meanwhile, I had academic break starting in January 2022 with my 3rd term to begin in May 2022 meaning I had inadvertently spent the full first year of my school in Naija.

On the 7th of April 2022, my agent called me as she always does when embassy provides a response, the way my heart was beating as I picked the call gan can pound yam, because won't my enemies laugh at me like this. The first thing she said was congratulations, the embassy has requested for your passport, abi na April fool. I suppose dey cry as I type this but I won't, as per hard guy I won't. I could not contain my joy especially with the fact that my school sent a mail that they are transitioning back to physical classes for the next term.

Thanks for reading and I hope my story inspires someone. I just want to wish everyone that is hopeful for a visa the very best and I pray that God that did it for me will also do it for you. I know that I might have left a lot of details out but this story seems like it will be very long. God makes all things beautiful in his time and the truth is I have saved a lot of money by completing my first year in Naija because now I dey hear say my rent will be $600CAD per month.

I am new on Nairaland, so I may not be as responsive here as quickly as I should be, I'll try to respond as much as I can. If there is any other way I can help anyone or any other details of my application you would like to know about, you can send me a msg on Twitter @lavishorlex and I will surely reply you.

P.S: I apologise for not posting this immediately I got my PPR, I read here about someone who got his passport returned without a stamp after submission so I waited till I got my passport back. I waited for almost 20weeks una sef suppose fit wait for one week na. I will see if I can do landing gist as well if una no mind.

Hello Guys.

I am kind of worried.

I did my upfront Medicals 3rd of March.

Submitted application 23rd of March,

I did my biometrics 24th of March and it reflected Immediately.

I became worried that the medical has not been updated, so i resent the e-Medical sheet via webform to IRCC.

YET, IT HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED. what should i do please

Send by email to Nairobi, copy Abuja in the email. Write URGENT, application number, medical update in the email subject.

The email should also contain all the details you normally put in your webform ( name, uci, address etc).

Search this thread for the 3 Nairobi email addresses and the Abuja email address.

Greeting
You can mail the school and inform them regarding delay in the approval of your visa. It happen to me last year they reply me on how to go about it at the end it was approval and new letter was sent to me.

It will end in Praise.

Thank you for your response, does that mean, I shouldn't start the study application process?
Calmdancer21:

Just wait for your new LOA, once it arrives upload it to IRCC via web form. It will end in praise

Please I need advice
I got admission to do Bsc. nursing in New Brunswick
I have a Bsc.Plant Biology and Biotechnology
MSc. In Botany
Now some people told me I shouldn't bother to apply for study visa that I won't get the visa, that it is Clear I want to run away so The visa officers would refuse me...I shouldn't bother .... am confused should I decline the admission..pls hear me out...I am not running away..pls I want more views
Pls i need input from everyone
No Academic Progression in this path you wanna take and a Visa Officer will easily assume your purpose of visit to Canada is not to STUDY but to JAPA which is a RED FLAG.

In your best interest and to stand more chance in your study visa application in terms of Academic Progression, go for a PHD program in research areas related to your B.SC or MSC degree/background

AWAIT ADDITIONAL INPUTS FROM THE HOUSE BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR DECISION

please how many days did it take the mp to get this update from IRCC?

The first time the MP reached out was on the 30th of March and promised to follow up on the 13th of April.
by the 1st of April, I logged into the portal and saw that my eligibility has started.
The Mp reached out yesterday again and IRCC claimed it's still under eligibility review.
