Lagos 1999 — Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the early hours of today coasted home to victory as the elected governor of Lagos State. He beat two opponents to emerge governor in a race which was hotly campaigned for but later became almost a walk over at the polls.

It was not so much a surprise that Tinubu who returned from a three and a half year exile beat his opponents, Chief Dapo Sarumi of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Architect Nosirudeen Kekere-Ekun of APP. What however shocked the losing parties and even Tinubu himself was the wide margin between the winner and the losers.

In a result that was announced by Professor Jelili Omotola vice chancellor of Univesity of Lagos and returning officer for the gubernatorial poll, at about 5. 20 am this morning:
-- Tinubu scored a total of 841,732 votes
-- Kekere- Ekun's 122,742
-- Sarumi's 184,900.

Tinubu won in 19 of 20 Local councils in Lagos state while Kekere - Ekun won Ibeju Lekki local government council.

Members of Tinubu's campaign organisation who set up offices in a building at Maryland, and a suite at Mainland Hotel were jubilating this morning when the last of the results came in from Kosofe LG where Tinubu secured 70,442 votes to Sarumi's 6,942 and Kekere-Ekun 3977.

The victory was heralded with loud shouts of joy at Tinubus house in Alausa, Ikeja a distance of 200 metres to the Governor's office where he will preside over the affairs of volatile Lagos from May 29. Although Tinubu who hugged and backslapped supporters, friends and campaign workers this morning will not grant an interview yet, he told P.M. News that the task has just began. "There is a big job to be done in Lagos.

The campaigns and elections are just minor aspects of it. The time has now come to sit down and do serious planning", he said in a huff. He thanked all citizens of Lagos and asked that they continue to cooperate with him in the task of making Lagos excel. By 6.00 am Sunday morning some of his friends started putting pen to paper to draft his acceptance speech which he delivered to the people of Lagos at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday.

Tinubu, an accountant attended university in Chicago, United State. He was elected a senator in 1992 but fled into exile in 1994, following the threats to his life by the Abacha junta over agitation for the validation of the election of 1993. He returned to Nigeria in September, rallying his supporters to gain a stunning victory in the primaries of the Alliance for Democracy.

That was how AD swept polls in SW 1999. May you are still a toddler then. Tinubu was highly respected in yoruba land up to 2011.

Nigerians didn't know they were signing up for crooks, rogues, charlatans and jakals to rule over them.

Days when Lagosians didn't know the aborigens would be subjected to tenants on their ancestral land.

Days when Lagosians didn't know government lands would be openly grabbed

Those were days when security votes hadn't corrupt our governors, constituency allowance hadn't corrupt our law makers, when vote buying hadn't been introduce into our voting system.

Lagos politics is different from National politics

MC Oluomo helped Tinubu in doing the dirty works of snatching ballot boxes and maniputing election sheets and results

Enough of this Tinubu lies , we no want .

Tinubu has never lost an election. He is a serial winner, a champion and a victor.
Northerners have cancelled all Ibo candidates, also, ibo cannot get up to 25% in SW. Tinubu will flog Atiku after dumping ibo first lady.

Tinubu with his powerful nothern networks, will win the Presidential election by a landslide. Mark this post.

Acknowledged

On a related note, Tinubu got a total of 841,732 votes in 1999 but 20 years after in 2019, only 739,445 elected Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor!

A shame on Lagosians. I hope it wouldn't be 500,000 that will elect the next Governor of Lagos in 2023.

The victory was because AD and Afenifere factor nothing special about his candidatcy then, You can check other results from SW in that particular election. May I remind you that he was beaten hands down by Funsho Williams in two consecutive times in AD primaries before Pa Abraham Adesayan and Bola Ige imposed him on the people. In facts, both Pa Adesayan and Ige have to relocate to Lagos to secure the victory for him, at the end he betrayed the two old men.

Right now he will fail with a landslide ,cos it is the turn of igbo to produce a president of this Country, as for those of u mocking igbos that we don't know what we want bla bla bla ,I want to tell u the truth those who are agitating for biafra are less than 30 percent of the population of igbos..and if this injustice persist till after 2023 elections ,more than 50 percent of igbo population will joined the agitation and surely this country will divide .remember nnamdi kanu said that he is not interested in igbo presidency ,but a separate state.so Nigeria will be doing him a favour to deny igbo presidency .those of us that see him as a clout chaser will realised ,he is on the side of justice..he will gain massive support from even our politicians, the solutions is for PDP and APC to zone the presidential elections to South East as it was done for yoruba in 1999,anything short of that will be disastrous to the unity of this Country, everyone in the east is aware of this truth
