1. Border closure- Nigeria has no comparative advantage to produce rice and cettain ban goods in commercial quantities. General insecurity is preventing most villagers to farm. Hunger is hitting people bad.
Solution-land borders should be opened for food importation.
2. Borrowing - you don't borrow if you don't have stable mean of paying back. Reckless borrowing is affecting forex because we have to pay back in dollars.
Solution-no more foreign loan. Local loan may be considered for vital national needs. Capital projects should be executed using IGR to grow our economy.
We don't need gigantic projects to impress people. We need meaningful projects but easy to maintain.
3. Devaluation of Naira. Black markets benefit more from devaluation. Abacha fixed $1=#22 for 5 years heaven did not fall. Prices of commodities were stable. To hell with foreign reserve.
4. Wasteful socialist programmes like trader moni etc are not ideal in emerging capitalist economy. Instead of giving poor people free money monthly, poor people especially elderly ones and children should have free access to education and health.

You so hit the nail right, all points mentioned equally accounts for why we are where we are today.

However, number 4, Wasteful Social programs resonates more with me. Trader Mini, School feeding programs, Npower and so many others under Buhari will go down in history as one of the biggest fraudulent programmes the country has ever seen.

Buhari is a big failure and Osinbanjo is an expatriate in fraud and failure.

Your conclusion is right but the above is not correct and does not properly convey the havoc Buhari is,was in his first military tenure and will be even in 10 lifetimes.
Buhari didn't devalue the Naira.Rather his senile, ancient of days policy of hoarding the dollar for his goons and favoured people in the guise of depriving some non essential areas of the economy, caused not just the devaluation of the Naira, but the annilation of it.
In just 2 years,Buhari's policies caused a 100% devaluation of the Naira. No other country except perhaps Zimbabwe has seen such massive devaluation within so short a time.
That Nigeria still has any semblance of an economy and people are not dying on the streets due to this unprecedented loss of value of the local currency,is one of the wonders of the world!

Feeding school children that have parents, paying stupid ransom

I agree with most but saying abacha fixed naira at #22 is a fallacy. Because it was officially #22 but #86 at black market.

I disagree with these two:

1. Border closure
No serious nation in the world is dependent on other nations for food. Domestic food production is too essential for any serious community, region, or nation to neglect. Imagine a scenario where Nigeria is in disagreement or at war with another country. They just have to stop food from entry the country, and we would fold like a pack of cards. Same thing applies to regions that depend on others for food. In addition, the border closure aimed at stopping the exportation of subsidised petrol to other countries.

2. Devaluation of the Naira
Fixing the Naira itself is a bad economic policy! Please read how George Soros made a killing from the Bank of England: https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/08/george-soros-bank-of-england.asp.

In summary, Nigeria is spending the dollars it does not have, and it is the future generation that would suffer it. And the country will be forced to start borrowing dollars. Even the average Nigerian is also betting against the Naira, because we know the present value is a lie. Many have dollars stashed up somewhere with the aim of converting it back to Naira later. We are presently suffering from the socialist systems that military ran to keep themselves in Power, though COVID-19 compounded the problem.

The only problem was that Nigerians stopped trusting the policies of the president, because of the clannish and religiocentric actions he or "they" took before these policies. I could have given you are more comprehensive answer, but am present occupied.

The border closure policy brought hunger to the country, a bag of rice now is #30k plus from #6500 while a derica which use to be #50 or so is now #500..

You can't shut things down without first providing for better alternatives. Buy and grow Nigeria they say yet all they ever use and do is from outside the country even down to their medical checkups so who is fooling who

This is the worse administration this country has ever had.

A section of nigeria halve tribalism as their political philosophy, the only reason they are posturing osibanjo as being different from buhari is for tribal reasons nothing else , he is completely responsible for the calamity this regime have brought nigeria to .

Amusing and smacks of amateurism, so since the boarders were closed nigeria became super sufficient in food production and the so called fuel exportation have halted. And why was the border closure enforced in the southern path of the country while the exportation of the fuels is mostly via northern borders and it remained ever flowing .

Fashola is one Minister that disappointed me, I believed if there were two people who would really work under this junta it would be him and Amaechi but Fashola has turned out to be a regional Minister who's only interested in the SW and pleasing the North. Check out any ten ministerial visits he conducted to random states and nine will be to either the North or a SW state. Also compare with key legacy projects, 90% when awarded to either to the north or SW states under his ministry before he even thinks of any other region. I've never heard or read about a government since 1960 and especially after the civil war in 1970 trying so hard and actively showing that some regions are more favoured and important than other regions in this country until this junta strolled along packaged in lies in 2015. Fashola disappointed me but it wasn't really unexpected sha, na their way cool

Meaningless post. China still imports food. If you don't have comparative advantage to produce certain commodores, don't waste your resources in producing them. Japan is a king in automobile technology because of abundant steel in the country. Afghanistan is a major supply of opium in the world because it has natural advantage to produce it. Border closure is a major reason why prices of commodities go up. Scarcity causes inflation.

Nigeria is spending dollars that it doesn't have to pay back loan. It is not good for our economy.
The truth is Buhari policies destroyed economy.
If government wants to float forex, external borrowing should be stopped. CBN has been fixed forex for decades. There would always be parallel markets because restriction is too much on what people can import. Ineffective regulation. Economy should be liberated. Rigid approach of Buhari to economy is causing stagnation.
