1, He was in the forefront of the struggle that resulted in the emmergence of the Buhari presidency.

2, He made lots of sacrifices, threw his entire weight, took the risk of putting all his eggs in one basket, contributed massive financial investment, risked his life and the wrath of his people, all for Buhari. Because of this he is still perceived as a traitor by a cross section his people.

3, He is popular and enjoys the trust of the Buhari innermost circle of friends and political decision makers. For this reason he occupies the seat of one of the most important portfolio in this administration.

4, He is the perfect southern candidate who can easily be sold to northern voters owing to his antecedent of political and tribal neutrality.

5, With his support for the construction of rail lines across the north he has shown that he can stick his neck out for the north.

6, He is a performing minister. He is arguably the most performing fed minister today.

7, He also performed as governor. Arguably, his record of performance as governor is yet to be matched or broken by Wike who is largely seen by his supporters and party members as a performing governor.

8, He is equally liked in the south as he is in the north.

9, He has the political clout to win a presidential election.
