The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has said that Africa’s growth and development will require strong, visionary leadership that caters to the people’s needs and effectively strengthens institutions that encourage peaceful co-existence while providing disincentives to conflicts and coups.

Buhari said this on Sunday in Addis Ababa, at a meeting with the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, at the headquarters of the African Union.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday titled, ‘Africa needs stronger, better leadership to grow, President Buhari, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed agree at AU meeting.’

The President commended Ahmed’s efforts in maintaining peace and unity in the country.

He said, “You are leading a country that is large and diversified, just like Nigeria, and I know the sacrifices required to make the desired impact, especially in maintaining peace.”

He urged the Ethiopian leader to stay focused on keeping the country together, in spite of the difficulties, assuring him that Nigeria will continue to support efforts in peaceful co-existence and unity.

Buhari, who said Ahmed had provided strong leadership for the country, encouraged him to sustain the good work in ensuring even development.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister thanked the President for support to the country over the years, on national and personal endeavours, particularly in encouraging unity and stability.

Ahmed noted that Africa had experienced slow growth due to conflicts, adding that the larger economies like Nigeria and Ethiopia should provide the leadership that will deepen progress and prosperity on the continent.

The Prime Minister said the resurgence of coups on the continent could further weaken institutions and reverse the democratic.

He also appreciated Buhari for his position on zero tolerance for military interference in governance, saying collective and visionary leadership will move Africa forward.

Yes! Tinubu fits the bill in Nigeria. He has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is a visionary leader in Lagos. After 22 years that he first became the governor of Lagos, the state continue to make positive trajectory unequalled in other states of the federation.

As a matter of fact, Lagos now competes with sovereign nations of Africa in terms of GDP and economic progress. If he became Nigeria president, he would galvanize other African countries towards economic stability and progress. We really need visionary leaders in this our underachieving continent.

How visionary are you sir?
charity, they say begins at home.
The way you have been trying to revive cattle routes and encourage open grazing in this 21st century shows that you also lack vision sir.

I searched through the post and never saw where Buhari stated the word 'visionary'. He spoke about strong leadership which we all know he isn't providing in Nigeria; and even that statement seems to have been made by RudeAdesina.

It was the Ethiopian guy who spoke about visionary leadership. How visionary is that one's leadership by the way?

Is Buhari a strong visionary leader?
Re: Africa Needs Visionary Leadership - Buhari by Sebastine1994(m): 1:50pm On Feb 07, 2022
After reading one book called Dictators handbook, I have never viewed the world the same.

I now know that one person alone cannot lead, no matter how powerful they portray themselves. They need the critical support of some strong men.

Even ordinary local government chairman cannot govern alone, he needs like few stong men to acknowledge his power, if not hé would just be a powerless bulldog,

That is why 5 people with gun can control 300 people without gun, if you incentivize them well, thése 5 people will work for you,

That is why huge expenditure goes to the military instead of the education sector.

Buhari can rule for 8 tenure self, if he has the critical support of his few key supporters.

I am not sure whether Buhari actually understands the things that he says. if he means this statement i expect him to tender his resignation immediately he returns to this country. The man is the most backward terrorist alive.

Those who destroy, then present themselves as the solution, are they also visionary leaders?

One ousted a democratic government which later resulted in a series of catastrophic dictators, then many years later, he presented himself as the solution

One imposed a catastrophic government on the people for 8 years, then presents himself as the solution
