“Chinese financial institutions take sanctions compliance seriously,” said Ben Kostrzewa, foreign legal consultant at Hogan Lovells in Hong Kong, who formerly handled U.S.-China disputes and negotiations at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. “They don’t want to be sanctioned themselves, they can’t lose access to U.S. dollar transactions, so they are going to have to think about it very seriously -- whatever the geopolitical impact might be.”

in 21st century warfare..,
taking over and keeping a country is one of the hardest job for any military due to advanced guerrilla warfare tactics (ask the US in Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan etc)

so I believe the best Putin will do, is to do a blockage across Kviev & several Eastern & Southern states..

also, think Putin is trying to create a space between the Western Ukraine side of the diniper river and the eastern/southern sides that share real boundaries with RUSSIA, cos either he likes it or not.. Ukraine will join Nato, it's only a matter of time.

i think this war may not b a long one but the blockage & land occupation may be long..

this is one of the reasons Putin is indirectly calling for talks with Ukraine.
