British tanks have been arriving in Estonia as part of a move by Nato to strengthen its eastern flank after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The UK Ministry of Defence said Challenger 2 tanks and armoured vehicles from the Royal Welsh battlegroup have reached the Baltic state from Germany.

Around 1,000 soldiers and more equipment are due in the coming days in a doubling of the British military presence in the country, where the UK leads a Nato battlegroup

It comes after Nato leaders agreed to deploy elements of the alliance’s 40,000-strong response force to eastern member states amid fears they could be the next target for President Vladimir Putin following the Russian attack on Ukraine.

Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said he did not believe the Kremlin’s objectives ‘are limited to Ukraine’ and the whole of Europe is under threat.

‘We are now making significant additional defensive deployments of forces to the eastern part of the alliance,’ he said after a virtual summit yesterday.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said the UK’s deployments ‘constitute a credible deterrent to stop Russian aggression threatening the territorial sovereignty of member states.

This is getting serious everyday.

Cowards ! Those tanks are actually needed in Ukraine and not in Estonia ! Move them an inch into the Ukrainian territory and see the mother of all battles in the hands of Russians. Bunch of cowards with lame excuses. Ukraine is not a NATO member,blah blah,blah ! If Ukraine is not your business,then why sanctioning Russia over the invasion of that territory ? Shouldn't you mind your business then ?

Hypocrites,was Kuwait a NATO member when USA and its allied NATO forces rescued it (Kuwait) from the jaws of Saddam Hussein's Iraq in 1990 ? This war actually brought to the fore the naivety and inexperience of Mr Zelensky in the world of political diplomacy. He allowed himself and his country to be used to test the resolve of Mr Putin's determination to protect Russia and all its interests in that region. Not even a single shot will be fired by any NATO nation in the direction of Russia. It will not happen. Which country will want to try that ? None;not even the United States !

.. you don’t expect usa to directly fight for Ukraine since she’s (Ukraine ) is not a member of nato . Let Russia attack Poland and see nato reaction . Until then , Russia is a paper tiger .

Same thing been saying.
Lithuania,Latvia and Poland border Russia,like Ukraine.
Lithuania and Latvia are relatively small countries even less than half of the Russian forces in Ukraine can take.But seeing they are NATO members he conveniently by-passed them but rather went to a non NATO member with rudimentary air defence system and a military bogged down with fighting in Crimea and the separatist regions.
He should not even attack but just fly Russia planes into the airspace of any of the countries and kill one of their citizens and let's see if that would not be the end of him.

Russia has some of the most sophisticated military equipment and NATO realises this, but why aren't they moving into Ukraine?
