Royal Wedding: Oluwo Of Iwo Set To Marry Kano Princess
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi

The 27-year-old is a niece of Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The wedding, which is scheduled to hold on March 19, 2022, will take place at the residence of the Madakin Kano, in Kano.

Firdaus, a granddaughter of the deceased Emir Ado Bayero, will hold a grand reception strictly for ladies at Gidan Rumfa inside the Kano Emir’s palace shortly after the wedding.

Oluwo is remarrying barely three years of divorce from his first marriage with a Jamaican woman.

He became the Oluwo of Iwo in November 2015, at the age of 48.

A letter had trended on social media about a month ago where the Oluwo was allegedly soliciting financial support for the wedding from the governor of Osun State.

However, the palace, on 11th February, quickly released a statement to refute the claim, saying the letter was fake and not from the Oluwo.

Any Kano princess who agreed to marry Oluwo of Iwoland Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi inspite of his well-documented vices must be a real hustler. Trust me, this marriage bid is likely to be more about street hustles than about love.

IWO is gone. The woman this Fulani slave will marry will give birth to a male child and the child will chase all the Afonja descendants and claim the region as an emirate. This must happen and Afonja will still be shouting IPOB and IGBO.

How is it your business, every human being have evolved but you people are still stuck with prehistory caveman tribal mindset.

If the marriage is true then its good for social bonding of the two tribe. This also show that Hausa have no problem integrating beautifully into Yoruba culture.

Even among Yoruba Christians, they prefer Hausa to igbo, especially northern Christian.

Hausa and Yoruba are bonding through culture business and politics, its enough to make you igbo jealous

Unknown to u. The mother of the current emir of kano is Yoruba; she was the mother of Sunusi Lamido's wife, mother of current Emir of Kano and Bichi emirate in Kano, sister of Gambari.

grin grin grin grin ;...now i understand the Family tree. As an Afonja claiming to be Arewa..do you lead prayers at the Mosque when your Almajiri brothers are present?? See how you are defending people who only relate to you because of "Political religion" . Aside the religion you are actually expendable...and useless to the Fulani emirate North.

Ni dan Arewa ne cikakke (I'm full blooded Northerner). In almost all Northern tertiary institutions Yoruba, Igala and Ebira are championing the affairs of religion especially Federal institutions. You are just dogmatic by believing every hoax they tell u.

Religion in this case doesn't matter, this is the issue of trust and friendship in diversity. The relationship between North and West predated many centuries especially in areas of religion, culture, marriages and economy. This metamorphosed into politics, and socioeconomic aspects of our daily affairs.

Only fools who use ethno-religious excuses to break the bond won't understand this centuries alliance that was established long before the coming of whites who imposed what brainwashed u to make these silly statements out of ignorance.

Oba AbdulSaheed Elegusi of
Lagos State married his second wife from Kano (from the Yakassai family who have
Jukun paternal descent) just before the Covid lockdowns started, so there's nothing wrong IMHO in the Oluwo of Iwo getting married to a woman from Kano of Fula or Hausa descent. A few Itapa (Nupe) women have been married into the Oyo
Kingdom in the centuries past.

It's just important to get an official confirmation from the Palace in Iwo Kingdom like other Palaces in
Yorubaland have done.

UPDATE:
Just finally confirmed that the
Wedding will be taking place but
Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi will NOT be there as is the tradition in Yorubaland. She will be brought to the Iwo Palace from Kano.

Hope the Oba treats her well and she too should have a knowledge of
the Yoruba culture she is coming into.

I'm quite dissatisfied with the way the Oba's Canadian-Jamaican
former second wife was treated though. Wishing them the best.

Stop typing what you don't
know here!

You're neither Yoruba nor from the
North of Nigeria so why are you posting misleading info here?

I'm aware of a prominent Sunni Yoruba imam in Kano who lead the Muslims and indigenes of Kano in prayers. The Punch had a full page interview with him in 2015 (or after 2015) and he stated he is Yoruba.

There are thousands of Yorubas who have been living for decades in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Minna, Bauchi, etc, as big-time traders and other professions, and you would not immediately know because they
tend to live among and blend with the indigenes especially among the Yoruba Muslim Ummah. Same with
Ebiras and Auchi indigenes in Kano. Aisha Yesufu is from Auchi in Edo State but was born and raised in
Kano and you would think she is
Hausa initially. I'm NOT a Muslim
but it is good to be knowledgeable about these facts.

Centuries gone by, advanced history books that I've read indicate how Yoruba traders from Oyo Empire traded with Hausaland via the Nupe country, they also traded with Timbuktu in Mali, the Asanti Empire, and of course the Bini Empire which is closer.

Islam also was first brought into
Yorubaland by people from Mali over 500 years ago and the first mosque in Yorubaland was built
in Iwoland where Oba AbdulRasheed hails from. I read that Iwo Kingdom usually turbans their kings during coronation. In Lagos State, even in Epe (which has two monarchs one for Ijebu Epe, and the other for Eko Epe), the Eko Epe Oba is turbanned Islamically during coronation.

His ancestors fled to Epe (an Ijebu town) with Oba Kosoko after the British Naval ship bombardment of Eko Island (or Lagos Island) in 1861 after a fierce resistance.

Yorubas refered to Islam as
"Esin Imale" meaning "The
religion of Mali."

There were many indigenous
Yoruba Muslims long before the
Fulani-led jihads. This is why in the early 1800s, it was Yoruba Muslims that led a well-documented slave revolt in Bahia in Brazil because they and other Muslims from other
West African ethnicities were prevented from praying.

Read up on:
Male (Islamic) Slave Revolt in
Bahia, Brazil online via Google.
Male (derived from Imale) is the
Yoruba word still used in Brazil
for Islam.
