The energy ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as the European Union energy commissioner, met by videoconference and reaffirmed that contracts “must be respected,” with most stipulating payments be in euros or dollars, a G-7 statement said.

“Payment in ruble is not acceptable, and we will urge the companies affected not to follow (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s demand,” Habeck said.

Russia will not supply gas to Europe for free, Kremlin says

“We are not going to supply gas for free, this is clear,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference call. “In our situation, this is hardly possible and appropriate to engage in charity (with European customers).”

[s]If Russia's reserve currencies in Dollars, Euros, Pounds is frozen, every revenue in those currencies that will end up in the reserve will be
frozen. Russia might as well be selling o
il and natural gas for free??

Russia's reserves in Euros, Dollars Pounds, etc., are all frozen. Russia has no access to any revenue in those currencies.
It's tantamount to selling their natural gas/oil for free.

That's why he needs to backoff from ukraine so as to get the sanctions lifted.

His puppets here said sanctions are as useless as their(putin puppets) parents.

Ruble is close to it all time high of last year at 87.40 2 hrs ago as the deadline Russia gave Unfriendly countries get closer.

Russia said all unfriendly countries must purchase rubles by theirselves and then use the Rubles to purchase Russia gas and oil, meaning they have to be buy it from Russia.

When they were freezing foreign reverses, what do they expect? Continue to pay in foreign currencies that will go to the same reserves and later be seized by them?

Western countries are funny.

They really played into Russian trap with this one.

I really don't think they have a choice, except they want to see their economies capitulate.

This is what happens when you overestimate yourself and make hasty judgements.

They should release Putins Billions of Dollar and Euros before he would accept their money. Putin isn't a Fool. U can't sanction me and seize my huge amount of money in ur own currency and expect me to sell and accept ur own money.

Hungary, Bulgaria and Austria will be the first to start buying in rubles because they are 80% on Russia gas and oil, In fact they most probably already did. The ruble has risen to below $90 (was $78 before the war). Obviously someone is buyng rubles
