We Should All Be Delegates by hnm2023: 10:02am On Mar 31, 2022
According to the calendar of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria's next general elections have been slated for the 25th of February 2023. The general elections, held every four years, offers itself as an opportunity for everyone to have a rethink. It is often lauded as a period where political and non-political groups with common goals, come together in a bid to decide what's best for not just their individual interests, but the betterment of our country at large.
On the other hand, in the sunny path towards the rainy general elections, from the look of things in the internal party affairs, the indefatigable party delegates hold sway. It is also noteworthy to mention that they are charged with the responsibility of making decisions that eventually produce consensus candidates put forward by the political parties for the general elections. By voting the sole presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial candidates known as the flag bearers of the party, the party delegates have in a major way, begun the first step to the party's victory at the polls. It is because of how significant this phase is, that this article beckons to the Nigerian voter that there is a way we can all support our chosen candidates before the general elections and this brings us to the topic; We Should All Be Delegates.
The first thing then to consider is that to be a delegate from the outside, political and non-political groups must first see themselves as delegates. By this I mean, it will be easier for outsiders to get in touch with the insiders (delegates) who are familiar with the terrain.
More so, as an interested party, just like any delegate in the inner-party circle. It is only right that these political and non-political groups convincingly put the works of their principal first. This is important because, a wise saying goes: "Your reputation precedes you" and if so be it, I guess the burden to win more followers to your fold or political banner has been made light. This is why many people will rather side a man with a proven trajectory and experience than a newbie in a field. In other words, action speaks loudest, when everyone becomes a delegate for that right man whom they have solid confidence is the right choice.
There is also the need to trust our convictions. This is a very good trait every delegate in the inner circle possesses. What I am saying is that there is no way a delegate will preach the gospel of a good candidate without being convinced that this person is actually the man or woman with the right interest of the people. The ability to discern what should be done in crucial times like the works done for the IDP camps, girl-child education, technological and innovative encouragement these past years. A delegate must know a man with a vision.
Now, search within yourself as an individual or as a group and adopt these inner qualities in pushing your chosen aspirant and their aspirations forward. By doing so, you will see the need for why we should all be delegates.
