Smart thinking countries are moving away from dams as a renewable energy source into lesser carbon footprint impact based sources like solar, wind and even tidal. Yesterday it was around 43°c in Abuja.
We are told that kanji dam is still operating lesser than it's full capacity since God knows when...
In days where terrorists are blowing up trains and hijacking airports, I think we should think of modular, decentralized and smarter energy sources in multiple location

In as much as they are other options, most countries that happens to have sufficient power have a large share of that from the dam. When properly utilized it have more advantages than l you just listed .

please share this 1.3 billion dollars to states and let them go and solve their electricity problems. Both Jonathan and Buhari have thoroughly messed up this sector. Remove electricity from the exclusive list and watch how states will solve this problem. Not because they are competent but because other states will show them up. It is rime for a radical different approach to this problem.

You know that the logic behind these power project is to take advantage of the natural competitive resource of an area? So you advocate wind for Zungeru in replacement of Dam? Where is the wind?...and you know the longer-term cost of ownership makes dams more valuable?

Meanwhile, who says Solar and wind cannot be compromised (attacked by bandits?)

Decentralization is one thing that Northern Nigeria hates to hear. It threatens their existence!

A country like Nigeria with its huge population need nuclear power stations not hydro electric plants. That's the only way we can meet our power demands.

Many things are still shady about these hydropower projects. How many hydro-power projects fall to the north, how many do we have in the south? How much does it cost to produce a megawatt of hydro-power plant? Can't each state manage it's electricity generation, transmission and distribution? All these set of dumb ass we have at the helm of affairs, can't they think outside the box? Why do we keep getting everything wrong every time?

SW should be careful, from Yobe, Bornu to Kaduna to Kogi and Kwara. They are already inside the farms and bushes in Yoruba land.
