Free speech and expression of opinion do not exist in Nigeria. Section 39 of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria states: " (1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference."

Yet, when Chief Imam of Apo Juma'at Mosque in Abuja, Sheikh Nuru Khalid expressed his opinion on the mishandling of the railway service, he got suspended. In the United States and other western democratic countries, no institution will be allowed to suspend their citizens for expressing their opinion on mishandling of railway service--like the one taking place in Nigeria.

So, in my view, the suspension of Sheikh Nuru Khalid for outlining the evilness--which president Mohammadu Buhari represents shows that Nigeria is not a democratic state. Nigeria system of government is a sham. Citizens are not allowed to express their opinions on the mismanagement of the country. And you call that democracy?
