There's this advice that..

"Work smart and not hard".

That is very misleading....especially when you're just starting out in learning a business or skill.

Why's that?

Because you're just starting out.

There's so much you don't know and if you don't want to be blown away by the top guns...

You should work hard to learn what you need to know.

After you've understand those..

you can now 'WORK SMART' by outsourcing some activities.

That's how you become a TOP GUN in your field.

What are your thoughts on this too? I'd love to hear from you

Working smart is suppose to be about getting your job done with as small as possible resources without breaking morals or cheating.
Nowadays it is about getting the money meant for the work.

Nowadays it is increasingly about getting the money meant for the work by any means irrespective of the work.

Thanks for this input and that's exactly my point.

You have to understand the whole idea of the work before you can know which one you can focus on to get the results you desire.

But someone who doesn't understand how to use the resources is already thinking about working smart*

Now that's wrong

You are correct op. Those that are working smart have aquired some level of leverage (Money, influence, or knowledge).

For those starting out, you'll have to do the work at first.

Those that always preach "work smart and not hard" they are well aware of the struggle they face in the begining stages, but unknowingly discouraging those starting out.

Same reason new comers give up when they don't see result in a short time.

If you're still starting out, It's smart enough to first learn the business or trade you're about to go into before starting it. People work too hard because they spend a lot of time trying to figure things out by themselves along the line, something they could've learned from a mentor. Smart people find someone in the field and intern with the person. Don't just go all out on some place where you're naive.

Once you've figured it out, you can also find and convince a venture capitalist to fund your business for shares, rather than getting a job and saving for years in order to start your business (assuming the bank won't give you a loan)

Work smart please. Even if you are working hard, someone working smart will learn the requisite skills within shortest possible time while you are working very hard to catch up. If na by hardwork, the richest man in the World is supposed to be a Bricklayer.

Work smart anytime any day.

Here is a scenario, one young electrician is here at the moment to fix Fuse problem, the first thing he did is to put oil to loosen the screws since the wire has melt and it affected those screws and he went to source for wire he will use to pass the current from changeover to Fuse.

After he is done sourcing for the wire, he placed his screwdriver on those screws and they turn up without any extra force omo, I was shocked, see brain.

What suppose to take him hours was done before an hour.

Note: He wasn’t notify ahead about what he’s coming to battle with hence, I concluded it’s about working smartly and not by hard work.
