Former Nigerian defender, Ifeanyi Udeze has revealed that former Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen was not fully in charge of the senior national team during his three month reign as coach.

In an interview with Brila FM, Udeze blamed Eguavoen for not having enough guts to stamp his authority on the team and not taking key decisions when it mattered most.

He also advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint a foreign coach that will manage the Super Eagles.

“As much as I want an indigenous coach to be in charge of the Eagles, a foreign coach must be the head,” the former PAOK Thessaloniki star stated this in an interview with Brila FM.

“Eguavoen was not fully in charge of the Eagles for the World Cup qualifiers because he had said he invited some players to the team to pacify some individuals at the NFF.

“That showed that he did not take full charge of the team. Those that he tried to pacify then where are they now?

“Some of his decisions during the game (versus Ghana) also didn’t show he had enough information about the opponents he was playing (against).

“I find it very annoying to know that it was an Eagles player that informed the technical crew that the Ghanaian team had switched to a back five at half time when we introduced Abdullahi Shehu.

“We had a creative player in Akinkunmi Amoo who should have been introduced to help the team from the bench but that did not happen.”

So he allowed the tribalism and nepotism that has taken over every part of Nigeria to overrun his leadership. Well, he had to suffer the consequences alone

Austin Eguavoen's hands were tied from the beginning because his appointment was a favor done by Amaju Pinnick. No way, he would have maintained his stand boldly before the bully boss Amaju Pinnick. Yes, Emmanuel Amunike was brought in to help but contrary to what he was told, he was strictly as ASSISTANT with zero input to team selection.

Now, Eguavoen's failure should bnot be used to condemn our indigenous coaches. Let's face it. Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana had local coaches and qualified while some African countries with foreign coaches didn't qualify.

The question is in his two terms in office, what did Amaju Pinnick do to improve the knowledge of select elite coaches to boost our football?

I hate such excuses of coaches saying the board dictates or have a upper day about the tactics or team list wen in charge..
as a coach, once u notice u aint in charge, jus resign bcoz I remember mourinho leaving united bcox of the same reason and also conte leaving inter about dis same issue
him resigning would gain more respect than being forced against ur will bcoz wen things goes wrong, its on d coach..
