cvibe:

N9,400 minimum wage.

Transport to work 20days. 100 per day=  N2000

Lunch at work N200per day =  N4,000

Toiletries. N 1000

Shirt? shoe? pant? trouser? belt? Dinner?

House? to live
bed? furniture? TV? Fridge etc etc?

Children?

You are simply getting this whole stuff wrong!
What you should be looking for is not the so-called 'minimum wage' but the Multiple effects it will have on the whole others who earn far above the minimum wage.
Check this scenario: If the minimum wage (least paid worker) has a salary jump from N7500 to N18,000 what it means is that the jump will be effected across board. N7,500 to N18,000 is 140% increase!! { [(18,000-7,500)/7,500] *100% }
so apply that to those earning N70,000 per month or even N120,000 and see the multiple ripple effects when you consider that the states hire thousands of non-performing, idle Workers!

Frankly N120k is not too much for a level 14 public official that has spent close to 20 years or more in public service.
Why don't we complain about these over bloated pays received by our legislators?
Those over bloated contracts been awarded by our state government?
Those public funds been looted and when recovered we do not see what they are used for?
The state workers too deserve an imitation of a good life and taking the minimum wage to N18k is a fair start.

Increase productivity to justify pay rise, Ajimobi tells Oyo workers

Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Wednesday, charged civil servants in the state to justify their clamour for the new minimum wage through improved productivity.

Governor Ajimobi gave the charge while speaking with newsmen after an unscheduled visit to some government ministries and parastatals.

Senator Ajimobi expressed dismay at the absence of many of the civil servants at their duty posts by 9:30 in the morning when he completed the inspection as well as the general laxity of the staff, the dilapidated state of infrastructure in the ministries and the lackadaisical attitude of the staff to work.

He also restated the determination of his administration to reposition the civil service as a vehicle to achieve the task of transformation of the state and the restoration of its past glory, adding that it would be difficult to get the cooperation of staff when their work tools were obsolete and dysfunctional.

Ajimobi emphasised the need for the workers to be disciplined and team up with government in the rebuilding of the state, pledging to set an example by reporting early to office and duty.

The governor said his visit was to demonstrate leadership and give staff a new reorientation to work ethics and general attitude to government work.
