Nigeria is ‘not a nation but a cage if we imprison people for their religious views’ -Wole Soyinka.

The President of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, Mubarak Bala, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for blasphemy after months in solitary detention and earlier confinement in a mental institution, raising questions about the country’s tolerance for religious freedom and right to free speech.

Professor Wole Soyinka, speaking toThe Africa Report, describes the sentence as a mockery of justice and calls on human rights organisations to launch a campaign against the development.

The Nobel Laureate says the incident was part of the disadvantages of the Sharia law being practised in the north, adding that the concept of blasphemy ought not to exist in a country like Nigeria which claims to be secular.

The differences among Nigeria's federating units are so divergent for them to be in one country. If the constitution of the land doesn't supersede every other regional or religious law, then what is the essence of being in one country?

Ur submission is both intellectual & philosophical!

Nigeria is too deeply heterogeneous in diverse ways 2 be cohabitedly harmonised into a single political entity!

Countries & their pples thrive well 2geda where they're more homogeneous than they're heterogeneous in nature & in context!

Dis is unfortunately not d case wit Nig, given its religious polarity as well as its multi-ethnic segmented nature coupled with d existent antagonistic groups wit contradictory views & divergent opinions within d warped political system!
