Date: Wednesday 6th April 2022. Location: Ihiala--Orlu--Anara road. Time: Between 2pm and 4pm. We had left Lagos about 5:30am for the about 650km trip to our village in Imo state. We were happy to be about Ihiala by 2pm. This is a feat considering that last Christmas we were forced to sleep in a hotel after getting across the headbridge Onitsha about 9pm. Then approaching Orsu we witnessed two Hilux vans driving out from the Orsu local government headquarters onto the Ihiala orlu road. They were Nigeria arms vans. We also observed an armoured van ahead of them. Though, the story later said they were two armoured vans. Ahead of our car were two passenger buses. They stopped as the army vehicles emerged and we did too. All of us slowly followed the military vans up to a point the buses seemed to be reluctant to continue. We moved on and were directly behind the vans by about a kilometer gap. The slow movement continued to Ebenator. However we observed that as the military vans were passing the various communities, the residents were fleeing into the surrounding bushes and inner paths. We also observed that structures especially business shops and plank market had been burnt down. We saw plenty water storage tanks burnt and littered by the roadsides. We were discussing these developments in the car when I observed that the two soldiers in the van ahead of us directed their guns in front of us and we heard two shots. That was it. We had to make a U turn. As we tried to beat this retreat, there were these young men ahead of us. They ordered us to stop!! We did. They marshalled us out of the car. And our encounter with the Eastern security network commenced.
